A quid is a pound, but no-one knows why. Perhaps from quid pro quo (something for something)...Originally posted by HBoss

Dammit, had you been around before 1971 you'd've been screwed. How much change out of a guinea would you have had if you had spent a tanner, a thruppeny bit, 3 farthings, six bob, 2 florins and half a crown?

guinea = 21 shillings right? ( go easy on me I was born the year we changed over)
so you start with £1 1s 0d
tanner = 6d
thrupenny bit =3d
3 fathings = 3/4d
six bob = 6 shillings?
2 florins = 4 shillings
half a crown = 2 shillings 6d
so thats 13 shillings 3 3/4 d
umm leaving us with
7 shillings 8 1/4d
and in 1971 you could probably get in the GP with that

To be honest there's not a lot of difference. Farm has the cars going straight past you; at Abbey you do have a chicane so there's potential for overtaking.
This will be my 8th consecutive British GP (I'm a SRC member so I get a grandstand seat in their private stand). Luffield and Woodcote are great to watch from. BUT, if you want the walk and the view then get the Stowe grandstand. I wrote a feature on my Grand Prix trip last year including a walk around the track to view cars. You can see from the exit of Becketts, all the way down Hangar Straight, all through The Vale, Club, Farm and Abbey and right the way up to Bridge! It really is terrific. Like I say it's a hell of a walk but it really is worth it.

Still too much.
I can do TWO Spanish GP's for that amount & that's including car parking & the lot - the above is just the pass. The fact I will be living in Spain helps here, but it's still possible to fly return from Britain, watch the GP & still be cheaper than Silverstone....
Having said that, it is a step in the right direction, so credit where it's due.

So to make money it's clear they NEED to gouge more.

and add France, European, San Marino to that list. Even Hockenheim, and Hungaroring can be done if you cost it carefully.
I costed the USGP for this year and at around £700 with flights hotels car etc, you have to say that silverstone is behind in offering value for money.
I still applaud Silverstone for making the effort though.

Understandably so. However, didn't they take a decision to intentionally limit attendance just a couple of years ago?Originally posted by Dudley
I suppose in silverstones defence, they pay the same fees to run the GP as Indy (or close to it) but they can only sell tickets (and associated ****) to 90,000 people, not 200,000.
So to make money it's clear they NEED to gouge more.

Although as several have pointed out there are still cheaper European GPs this has to be the first year in ages that the BGP is relatively affordable.
So a big

Whoo-hoo!
