Ferrari: sounds Fast ! Enzo must have gone into racing because of his name. Even his first name sounds fast !
Jaguar: epitomizes the idea of speed.
McLaren: perfect name for a race team, very racy and high-tech sounding.
Sauber: a very cool-sounding name for a rather boring outfit.
Williams: understated but proffesional just like the team.
Prost: not a great team name, but evocative to any racing fan.
British-American Racing: actually sounds kinda cool in a big-money kind of way.
Benetton: doesn't sound very speed-oriented, but has a certain ring to it.
Arrows: good, but rather generic racing name
Minardi: Appropriately Italian-sounding, but probably means "minnow" or something.
Jordan: shrug
Of course, all of these names are totally ruined by sticking the sponsorships all over them. Could be worst though. How about Scuderia Ferrari Viagra ?
Proabably the only team that hasn't suffered too much from sponsor-glut is West McLaren Mercedes, which rolls off the tongue nicely, and of course Jaguar Racing, which doesn't carry it's sponsors in it's name. Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro is nerarly unpronouceable, and as for Luck Strike BAR Honda, well, don't get me started. Arrows is just the team and engine the way it should be, but probably not by choice.
I think they should nuke sponsor names in team names and just go with the chassis-builder and engine-maker. Make a rule: two words only, and they both must be a direct manufacturer of the car. And no "rebadging".

McLaren more than high tech sounds like a Scottish bloke at the local pub......
I like Maserati, clearly Italian but could easily sound also Japanese

Yet more about Matra can be found here: http://www.matrasport.dk/
Apparently the auto company portion of Matra still exists, and not owned by any of the big automakers! But the only vehicle they produce nowadays is a minivan--in collaboration with Renault--so a return to F1 would appear unlikely.
