Welcome to one of the best places in the world Hugo. As I saw in your profile youare interested in Rosemeyer. Therefor we will cross some threads and posts in the future here on TNF.

BTW: you are from Schwelm, that' not far away, where I grew up: Niederrhein close to the dutch border.

Welcome from Cologne, Hugo! Although Schwelm politically does not belong to the Rhineland ;) , it`s nice to see some people from nearby here at TNF. And BTW, Holger, the Automobile Club of Schwelm (http://www.acas.de/festschrift.htm) was involved in organising the Selbecker Bergrennen and the Hohensyburg races we recently talked about with Hans (Etzrodt)!
@Hugo, are you into your local motorsport heritage, too? Because sooner or later we wanted to shed some more light on these events.

Hi
it's fine to meet someone who know the real difference in our NRW - here at the westfalian border I'm mainly interested in the Hohensyburg Dreiecksrennen (Lang started 1930; Rosemeyer 1932). The course is still existing ( the roads).
About the Selbecke Bergrennen I have never heard. The course must pass the go-cart track at Hagen is going up to Breckerfeld as this is called Selbecke. Nice road.

best wishes from Westfalia

Hugo

I came across this 10 year-old thread whilst looking for information about the support races at the 1934 Eifelrennen.

In the original programme which I have, Rosemeyer is down to ride #22, a 500cc DKW entered by Auto Union, in race 2 over 12 laps (273.7 km).   Looking at various books and mags, I can find no mention of him in this race beyond the fact that he was entered.  Did he in fact race in the Eifelrennen meeting and, if so, does anyone know what the outcome was ?

Tony

Somebody with a better understanding of 1930s idiomatic German - and a better eye for fraktur - than mine may be able to elucidate further, but I think he retired. There's a brief mention of him near the bottom of the first column on this newspaper page: the one word I can definitely make out is 'erlitten', which is the past participle of the verb erleiden: to suffer. The previous word seems to end 'schaden' - presumably something to do with schade, which has negative connotations.

The June 1934 edition of the Austrian AAZ has slightly fuller results - and is easier to read! - but there's no mention of Rosemeyer.

Vitesse, it says "Rosemeyer and (*cant read this, Markhofer?*) were unlucky and suffered engine damage".
"Schaden" is damage. "Maschinenschaden", engine damage, in a typical race report might be anything connected to the powertrain - from a faulty spark plug to a seized gearbox. In a broader use it might even mean any mechanical damage, as opposed to a crash.

Danke! Heh, now you've told me what it says Maschinenschaden is obvious! It was very late at night and maybe my eyes were tired.   I think the other rider mentioned is most likely Toni Bauhofer: if he was a non-finisher it was probably just as worthy of mention as Rosemeyer retiring.
