Not really a thread, perhaps more of an announcement...

The nice people at Robert Bentley have decided to ship me to Florida for Rennsport Reunion II, the follow-up to the evert at Lime Rock a few years ago that gathered racing Porsches from all parts of the globe. The obvious aim is to sell more books so I'll be there, pen in hand, hoping to see interested enthusiasts and TNFers.

Sounds fun! I may try to go, but it's a long haul from California to Florida!

Up to 1991, by Porsche's reckoning, 148 962s and 962-like cars had been built. Of these 105 had original Porsche monocoques while the rest were based on tubs made elsewhere.

What a fantastic lineup! Thanks a lot for sharing that! Amazing!

I know of a few 911R's that will be there as well - somehow they didn't make that list despite their rarity!!?? Also, numerous 73RS's and probably everything else imaginable. Jerry Seinfeld is bringing a few from his collection, including the Steve McQueen Gulf 917 from 'LeMans'.

They also plan to have an example of every year 911 road car from 1963 to the present. -- Curt

Gosh

What an event, and that many cars and all the drivers. I'm really impressed. Karl, you must be a lucky man.

Will follow that event on the official website.

And all those 904/6/8/10/17s, wow.

What a fantastic event this was. I found myself at several points during the weekend, standing in the garages slightly in a daze not knowing what to even look at!! Here's 2500 photographs to sort thru for anyone interested in Porsche ........

Cool stuff!

Can anyone tell me what the story is behind the early split windshield 356 with the tire on the roof?

That is Jerry Seinfeld's 356 Gmund Coupe. Built in a woodshed in Gmund, Austria after the war (1947-48??), it was one of the very first "Porsches". It has an aluminum body and utilized many modified-VW parts. The car had a crude - but very correct - appearance. Jerry was buzzing around the paddock Saturday afternoon in it. Ironically, it was parked in the garage alongside his ex-Steve McQueen 917K from 'LeMans' the movie - quite a contrast in Porsches.
