http://www.gp2003.co...nth=4&year=2004

Here is the list, according to Business F1 and reproduced by GP2003.com:

Michael Schumacher	32 million

Ralf Schumacher 14 million

Juan Pablo Montoya	12 million

Kimi Raikkonen 8 million

David Coulthard 8 million

Fernando Alonso 6.3 million

Jarno Trulli 6 million

Rubens Barrichello 5.5 million

Olivier Panis 4.5 million

Cristiano da Matta 4 million

Jenson Button 3.7 million

Giancarlo Fisichella 3 million

Mark Webber 2 million

Felipe Massa 1.5 million

Unfortunately GP2003.com foolishly neglects to provide a unit for all of this.

Notable bargains: BAR drivers (Jenson at 3.7 and Takuma -- who supposedly brings Honda sponsorship) and Webber (2 million). Perhaps even Massa at 1.5million.

Other notables: Nick Heidfeld is not on this list.

Interesting to check how some managers are better than others.

Anyway, I don“t think the figures are accurate. Almost all drivers have bonuses.

On the other hand, I remember reading that Fisi was earning 10M at Renault before being exchanged with Trulli, so it does not make sense his actual salary of 3M.

I think that making a list of Drivers actual saleries is basically impossible. A contract now a days, is a very substancial document closely resmebling a small book.

I would imagine that most salery structures is comprised from:

Base salery.
Performance bonus.
Target bonus.
Promotional appearences above a certain fixed number of days will pay something more.
Take or cut on personal sponsors, carrying on to the team.
Special bonus for a win, above and beyond the performance and target bonus.

We have heard for years that Michael Schumacher started out at Usd 25 millions when he came to Ferrari, and I belive a couple of years ago he was reported to have received an increase to Usd 30 million. Now with the latest contract extension, it is possible that he has received a "small" increase of Usd 2 million.

The list is a journalistic exercise, most likely placing the drivers in a fairly correct hirachy pay-wise, but the actual amounts is anyones guess.

Honda was with BAR before Takuma ever appeared.

So I suppose Honda sponsorship also brought Takuma?

It's a fine line. Sure BAR is the official name of the team, but Honda is pretty much integrated. If it's the Honda part of BAR-Honda that choose to pay Takuma's salary, is he really a pay driver?

It's like BAR is the racing team but JVi was paid by BAT. So was he a BAT pay-driver? He brought BAT sponsorship to BAR.

It's not as clearcut as e.g. Jos Verstappen and Trust (well... before 2004 anyway)

Kimi = DC ... something wrong there...

These salaries aren't performance based. Last year, Ralf earned something like $12 million US, compared to Montoya's $3 million US. And it was JPM who challenged for the WDC title, not Ralf. DC signed a longterm deal with McLaren, which paid him more towards the end. So, it's not that surprising.

Oops! My mistake. JPM got paid $3.5 million US in 2002, not 2003.

Nope. I can only guess, they must've thought DC would put up a stronger fight of the WDC titles. Other teams would be wise not to put too much faith in these longterm deals. Like the recent rumor of Toyota's interest in Ralf. Why paid Ralf 16 million + 18 million + 20 million euros for 3 years, when Fisi could be had at a much lower rate? Fisi did beat him when they were teammates at Jordan.

I was thinking that, that was because of MC was thinking that DC was capable of worthy input on technical setup/directions of the car that would allow young kimi to express better (which apparently prooves completly wrong).

Regarding Ralf rumours I really do not understand why Toyota would pay that much for a Panis #2 except if it would provide them with significant marketing impact in Germany. To me Ralf is is really disapointing know and looks to be a really small shadow of his brother...
