According to Paul Stoddart, a 'top team' appeared at Imola with slots in their RWEP's similar to that of Minardi. After checking the photo's, I can't find what the hell he is talking about, with the exception of Renault who have been using theirs since the car was unvieled.

Any idea who/what he was talking about?

Maybe Toyota? I think they had some slots in their RWEP's in Melbourne at least. It's hard to tell from the pictures though.

I've been carefully searching for rear wing changes through Imola's pictures and couldn't spot any other changes rather than those concerning both BAR and Williams shark fin spliters.

By the way, could anyone enlighten me about the aerodynamic advantages those slotted rear wing end plates of Renault and Toyota present other than saving a few grams of weight?

The team in question was Renault. I finally found a shot that shows them.

The advantage of the odd RWEP's is that it bleeds off the pressure (drag) that builds where the wing meets the end plate. Of course this result in some lost downforce, but it is regained by running more wing, which you can do since you killed that drag.

But Renault are running those slotted rear wing end plates since Melbourne...

Any proof? They certainly weren't in Bahrain.

Yes they were, unless we're not talking about the same thing.
Here's an Atlasf1 members section picture from Friday practice for the Bahrain GP (just after those weird michelin tyre failures):

I don't see any slots in it... perhaps you aren't talking about the same thing?

And in it's original form:

I thought you meant those horizontal cuts on the back of the end plates.
After watching the Minardi photo I think you're talking about a vertical slot, right?
I can't figure them out from the R24 photo though.

Oh forget...
I just figured it now, you can see the engine cover through it, you're right.

It's kinda weird, I've been searching several F1 sites and can't find other photo showing them. Even at F1-Live it seems like only that one actually shows it and only on the right end plate (maybe due to Imola's higher percentage of left hand corners).

I've just watched the taped San Marino qualifying session.
The slots are really there although one can't see them from a perpendicular view of the end plates because they form a certain angle with the plan formed by the plates twards the front of the car, hence better seen from behind like on that photo.

There is another difference on the Imola spec RW endplates of the Renaults. Before that the endplate's front sharp followed the rear wheel's sharp (from sideview). Now it's square there.

Well, to quote Stoddart, the slots appeared on a 'top team's' cars.;)

Good review as always Scarbs. Any idea why the Minardi's had trouble over the kurbs, despite testing there and being fine?

In the Tech Review it was shown that it was in fact the McLarens.

But theirs was a little different.

Right, but Renault also had them. Check them here.

The Mec's slot is a fake one. The Renault's slots are real.
