By the way, could anyone enlighten me about the aerodynamic advantages those slotted rear wing end plates of Renault and Toyota present other than saving a few grams of weight?

The advantage of the odd RWEP's is that it bleeds off the pressure (drag) that builds where the wing meets the end plate. Of course this result in some lost downforce, but it is regained by running more wing, which you can do since you killed that drag.

But Renault are running those slotted rear wing end plates since Melbourne...

Yes they were, unless we're not talking about the same thing.
Here's an Atlasf1 members section picture from Friday practice for the Bahrain GP (just after those weird michelin tyre failures):

After watching the Minardi photo I think you're talking about a vertical slot, right?
I can't figure them out from the R24 photo though.

I just figured it now, you can see the engine cover through it, you're right.

The slots are really there although one can't see them from a perpendicular view of the end plates because they form a certain angle with the plan formed by the plates twards the front of the car, hence better seen from behind like on that photo.

In the Tech Review it was shown that it was in fact the McLarens.
But theirs was a little different.
