Anyone know when GP3 is coming? Thought it was supposed to this last spring? Anxiously awaiting here in Iowa...

I've just ordered a computer and it has a 12XDVD drive(which also plays cd-roms obviously), but what speed does it play the CD's at?

I guess what I am really asking is will it be quick enough to play GP3? I just checked out the requirements on the website listed above, and I fear that I may not have a fast enough cd rom.

Should I be worried, or would any new computer with a DVD-Rom be fast enought from a CD perspective?

Can anyone help?

Am I being clear enough?(I doubt it)

Thanks,

Loz

PS-I know zip about computers

I think it may play CD at 40x, or more. So, I wouldn't fret about CD-ROM speed. Hope this helps.

Loz - CD speed has zip to do with how well GP will run, it's your processor and graphics card that count.

I would suggest that you need a P500mhz and a decent 3D card such as a TNT2. Anything less it will probably require you to turn off a load of features.

The game is awesome, I played it at E3 with all the help functions off in the wet. Touch the throttle just a little too hard and the car will spin in an instant - the feel was incredible, you really feel like you have to tiptoe around, just like the real thing.

TNT's are a bit long in the tooth and no longer the best card.

If you got plenty of dough, get a GeForce 2(US$280 approx), if you are on a budget get a GeForce 2 MX(US$130 approx), both will leave the TNT2 for dead(as the TNT and various flavours of GeForce are all made by the same company nVidia)

DVD and/or CD speeds are irrelevant, the game will install from your DVD/CD drive onto your hard disk. From there the game will run from the hard disk, and only call upon the CD for stuff in between races, i.e. Podium celebration music and the like.
