Now this is pretty interesting

I know a lot of us aren't all that superstitious, but a lot of race drivers are.

Interesting? Not so sure...
Nothing more than saying "the driver who wins the first GP of the season wins the WDC"
or "the one leading the championship after Spain wins at the end..."
Sometimes that's right, sometimes not.
Let me take a look at the list:
* Jones: retired (for the first time) when leaving Williams. Made a comeback with Arrows and Team Haas. Seems hard to me to win a championships when driving for a team that even hasn't won a GP yet...
* Rosberg: Does anyone really think he could have won the WDC in 1986? I doubt he believed that himself. He could and should have won (a) race(s) though...
* Piquet: Went to Lotus with high hopes, but if he was cursed I think it was more of a Lotus curse than a Williams curse...
* Mansell: McLaren wasn't really in top form when he went there (neither was Mansell IMO)
* Prost: Hard to win another title when you retire from the sport...
* Hill: see Jones...
* Coulthard ... Well it's Coulthard ... IMO just not fast and consistent enough to win a title.
* Villeneuve: see Hill, see Jones ...
R. Schumacher: see Jones, Hill, Villeneuve... Although maybe he still has a chance. If he goes to Toyota and they can construct a car worthy ot their status (2nd biggest budget?) then maybe...
Although it remains to be seen how they spend their budget: remember Villeneuve/BAR?
As for Montoya: wouldn't write him off too soon. If McLaren gets its act (euh... car) together for next year (or 2006), he can still win it...
And who knows ... he could still go back to Williams for 2007 (ala Mansell)

Frank Williams regards drivers as nothing more than a component of the car (I think the only exception was Piers - which is perhaps why he does it now) - they're as expendable as an old tyre. There's never been room for sentiment at Grove: harsh but true, especially if you're Damon Hill.

Mansell didn't do too badly in CART...
