Out of interest, no particular reason. With 22 drivers on the grid, surely at least 2-3 smoke on a regular basis.

MS has a celebratory cigar after a win I believe.
Jan Magnesson(spelling?) did, and it didn't seem to help him.

But as for regular smokers on the current grid I don't believe there are any.

I've seen a pic of Michael on vacation in the US, horseback riding with Corrina and he's smoking a cigarette. Not like it'll hurt him, he's got plenty of lung capacity to spare the way he trains.

Well didn't you all see Michael Schumacher smoke today on TV ? And it was the big cigar again .....couldn't see the name though . But he smoke two of them today. One each after the two sessions- prequaly and qualy.

The first smoke was apparently to celebrate the smoking of Woobens . The second one was the bigger one ...this time to celebrate smokin the field. ...and the second one was manufactured by .....guess who ....a company called " Smoke 'em" :)

HHF was not a regular smoker but on occasion he did have the odd one.

Mika Salo smoked all through his F1 career and he only quit when Toyota hired him to lead the team into F1, he totally changed his prioraties then.

Mika Hakinnen smoked and still does, DC once siad that he caught Mika out behind the team trailer lighting up a Marlboro! It was embarrasing for both of them DC said!

I think its the sort of thing that a driver wouldn't want to admit too. I read somewhere that a factory motorcycle rider didn't get a chance, in part because he smoke ciggies. It was seen as a sign of weakness and disregard for his health.

I think that is what hampered Mika Salo in his career. I heard that one of the reasons Ferrari never seriously considered him for the 2nd seat in 2000 was because he was a regular smoker.

Hakkinen on the other hand only smoked occasionally (I suppose because of the stress) and kept it secret so it was never a big deal.

Smoking is unhealthy. Any professional sport where you can get away with smoking would certainly make me wonder just how athletic that particular sport is.

i was referring to Kimi smart arse!

I'm going to write to Max and suggest each driver must make a pitstop during a race and smoke a joint before preceeding with the rest of the race.

In these days of political correct drivers and sanitized F1, I'm almost grateful of knowing some high profile drivers do such a marketing-image "sin" like an occasional cig.
