It doesn't suck - it's just extremely difficult to complete a lap without an off track excursion.
GPL is very, VERY,
VERY ,
VERY difficult to play. I have a steering wheel and pedals and am pretty good at most racing sims but it took weeks (literally) of practice before I could even get around Monza in reasonably fast time, reasonably consistenly.
Even with the patch and the much improved default setups it isn't much easier. The brake pedal is usually just a spin switch. I simply can't believe they have modelled the grip of those cars accurately or, if they have, then it's actually harder than the real thing because you're not getting any physical feedback from the car.
Consequently I found the 'Ring in GPL immensely frustrating. I was so glad to finally have a very accurate simulation of the 'Ring but so gutted that it was impossible to complete a lap without an off even when tooling around in 2nd/3rd gear. I eventually gave up as I felt I had better things to dedicate 6 months to.
It would be nice to get a sim of the 'Ring that's reasonably playable just for learning the track for when I go there for real in my M3
