Astounding is the fact that the F1 session wasn't even true 16:9, as some TSN dolt kept forgetting to do the 'switch' after commercials, but the 'little-league' Canadian Tire race was in fabulous high definition and made the F1 broadcast look like garbage.

And, four years on and GD and VF still haven't learned that the split times shown in green are not pole-beating times but are actually quicker than cars facing relegation. Both are frequently amazed when Scott Speed is on a pole run but loses 2 seconds in the last sector.

Yes, but the important point is TSN sucks. I don't know if I can cancel the cable as there are many good races left to watch this year, It is frustrating living in a 3rd world ****-hole.

TSN' schedule is 12:30 - 3:00 pm. Lets hope they will not cut the race broadcast short, should it extend for interviews by a few minutes.

TSN are not providing the best coverage in the world but i am not complaining, i came here 6 years ago from Australia so therefore any coverage thats not Australian is still great to watch, if you want to see a really **** F1 coverage take a quick trip to Down Under.

Me too , but the TSN coverage is pitiful compared to the brilliant 9 coverage of the home race.

One thing i am scared of when we move back to Sydney for good, the f1 coverage.

So, Instead of the post qualifying interviews for the CANADIAN Grand Prix, on TSN, we switch to the buildup for a little league Canadian Tire Nascar race at a short track in Ontario.

And, all Canadian Grand Prix coverage seems to be blacked out on the Speed Channel so the race with the worst coverage in Canada is the Canadian Grand Prix, again.

And no Martin Brundle, we get Gerry Donaldson, wonderful. I hope they atleast have John Watson, at least he sounds like he has actually been near an F1 car.

Depending on where you're watching from try the French sports channel RDS - it's in French but they cover absolutely EVERYTHING at the Canadian GP. RDS always has better coverage than TSN. They always show post qualy and post race interviews. They think F1 is worth watching.

I just wish Vic Rauter would stop talking over Gerry Donaldson. He is constantly cutting him off to make inane comments. Gerry never quite gets given the opportunity to voice his opinion.

Sorry to interrupt...what about Vic's non stop JV name dropping too?
Does Vic age? He looks the same as he did when he started in the 1980s,

Was it just me or did they cut the post race interviews short agan? Idiots.

Way to many commercials after the race; 30 seconds of chat then off to another commercial. Idiots.

I would have thought as the lead carrier we woudl have gotten a better post race summary but that is expecting way too much with these kooks.

My main concern was that they would be doing the commentary and we were spared that nonsense as I have a soft spot for the ITV coverage.

Donaldson used to be pretty good, sharing comments about what the press felt etc., but with his books and that success, he has become way too staid and predictable.

You can tell that TSN would rather just simulcast everything if they had a choice.
At least Vic appeared to have been in Montreal at some point during the week before hitchhiking back to TO.
It was one thing to be an "insider" in the pre-internet days, but anything of relevance Gerry can add about the situation in the sport ended last year when BMW kicked JV out of the sport for good.
You get everything you need to know now from sites like this.
I wish they'd show the ITV gridwalk though

TSN programming is showing US qualifying only 3 am on Sunday, and it appears that they will not show the race in real time at all. Isn't CTV owning the station? So much for watching F1. (Say at least that I couldn't find it within their Sunday programming schedule).

So true. What about VR still calling Takuma "Takumo" - he's only been around, what 4 or 5 years?

I don't watch any of the pre-race drivel and even mute the sound during qualifying. They have nothing interesting to say and they usually talk over the pit-to-driver feeds!! Probably don't have the rights to broadcast it.

Finally, for a guy who travels to every race, GD must be a total moron because he knows nothing. Just re-hashing old cliches and promoting some inane new book project. Tortora on RDS is also a complete moron. Both are suffering JV-withdrawal - they just re-hash paddock rumors.

Anyway, isn't FOX broadcasting the USGP. Don't know if it's on their HD station.

So true. I also notice the "he's on pole in sector two!!" moments.

I just read in our local paper that Vic moved here to Orillia last month.
Apparently he works from home and drives the hour and a bit to the office if needed.
If I meet him on the street, what should I suggest he do?
a) fire Donaldson
b) fire himself
c) buy me lunch

a) fire Donaldson - on air!

and

c) have him buy you lunch next time he says Takumo.

I wouldn't fire him, because despite not travelling to all the races and being a bit of a sports generalist, he has an incredible memory for all the corners on any given circuit.

Does anyone know what TSN's "alternate feed" is? Speed is not carrying the race either, right?
Looks like I'll get to practice my French.

We're very lucky that most of the races end up being run early morning or the middle of the night in Canada. If the races were mid-day or evening timeslots, coverage of F1 in Canada would be non-existant!

You're right on about that last point.

I thought the alternate feed was the non-HD channel, but this did not show qualifying live yesterday.

BTW, FOX is broadcasting the race race today (like CBS had done in the past) just hope it's not blacked-out.

Here in Vancouver I will be watching the race on the Fox TV affiliate from Seattle at 10am. TSN will be running the race in it's entirety tonight at 9pm PST.

Fox should be tossed to Hell. Why wouldn't they air the race live?? And I have to check our local listings to determine that it's not live. But I have to check the channel to insure that it isn't live.

Sharing the races is a frightfully stupid idea. Speed Channel, as horrible of coverage as they give, IMHO) is at least a constant.

I miss the old Canadian Channel 9 F1 broadcasts of the early 90's; much more professional and informed.

Frustrating coverage on FOX, 4 or 5 laps of the race and then another 3 minutes of commercials!

Very late post:

Just watched a tape of the Montreal GP, and I thought Vic Rauter's pre-race interviews of Hamilton, Alonzo and Ron Dennis were excellent.

Agree that Donaldson should retire, however. Poor guy has been reduced to empty platitudes. They should ask Jacques to replace him.

TSN's alternate feed is channel 401 on my digital box. I don't know if it's the same throughout the country. I got the race live on channel 401 last Sunday. It normally doesn't televise anything but commercials, except for some specific live sporting events. I've watched live tennis on 401 before as well.

So, we get to wait 11 hours to see qualifying for the CANADIAN GP. Then, the first 20+ minutes is without commentary. Then, it switches from 16:9 to 4:3 on the HD channel but we finally get commentary. It's like they can't figure out how to have commentary AND widescreen at the same time. Then, as soon as Q3 is over, they go to commercial and that's it, no interviews.

Absolute amateur hour on TSN. At least thank god we haven't had to suffer any Router & Donaldson.

I should consider driving down to Montana next year so I can get some decent coverage.

The pre-race show sucks, it's just like any other races, no special interview or garage insights. It's actually even worse than the coverage CBC had 20 years ago, I'm serious. CBC used to have 1 hour pre-race show with lots of driver/team personnel interview + grid walk.

Their effort was just pathetic.

The audio was a fraction of a second early on the video for qual today. It totally ruins everything. I emailed them a month ago, any bets on how long it will take them to fix it for good?
