There is a motor for sale on Ebay, listed as "I AM LISTING THIS FOR A FRIEND SO ANY SERIOUS QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED BY HIM AT (949) 631-6164 ASK FOR CHUCK DAIGH "
I'm wondering if this is the same Chuck Daigh who was one of Lance Reventlow's colleagues in the Scarab Formula 1 program. He went to Europe in the summer of 1960 in a vain effort to make a mark with the already outdated, front-engined US challengers. He finished a career best 10th in the US Grand Prix at Riverside after also having a run in a Cooper-Climax in that year's British Grand Prix. He raced on into the early 1960s, mainly in sports cars.

There is a possibility to contact the seller, so why not give it a shot?

While you're there, ask him which particular brand of Can-Am car they planned to put this into to drag Chuck out of retirement...

What the heck is that engine? An "Italian Bred NOS v-12 Hemi" seems to be a mishmash of about three different engines....

My dear fellows! I think Chuck Daigh's telephone number it is a chance that we mustn't lose! I never ever seen a good article (moreover an interview) about his life, but now we have this chance, we have a chance to obtain an interview with Chuck Daigh! Maybe some TNFers from California can do this? We all must remember that one sullen morning we can wake up and understand that our friend Chuck Daigh is no more with us :(

Chuck in the very act of recounting the Scarab-in-Europe saga, 3rd April 2004, in the Willow Springs "Budweiser Balcony" building. Somewhere there is a video tape, unless the photographer failed in some technical way.

More, please!

Lance and Chuck came to Thompson, CT with the Scarabs and absolutely dazzled those of us who were lucky enough to be there. ISTR it was circa '58.

Chuck P1, Lance P2, and everyone else eating dust.

If it's a B.P.M., I'd guess that it is a marine engine for an offshore powerboat, probably a racing boat.

The number listed is definitely Chuck Daigh at his Costa Mesa shop. In 2001 I did an interview with him about his career for Il Tridente, The Maserati Club magazine. It was published in the Fall 2001 issue and I am sure back copies can be ordered by anybody interested: try... email@themaseraticlub.com

Fascinating career, from El Mirage to the Mexican Road race, Scarab, Maserati, Ferrari, Chaparral, Lotus 19, stockers and a try-out at Indianapolis in Mickey Thompson's car. He also refurbished marine engines for Holman Moody. His last race was at Daytona in 1967 for Bill Stroppe's Mercury team, with Parnelli Jones and the late Rodger Ward as team members.

Good things to say about John Edgar, Phil Hill, Jim Rathmann, Phil Remington, Lloyd Ruby and Jimmy Clark. Not so good things about Bill Stroppe, Bob Bubenick, Steve McQueen, Frank McGurk, Joe Landaker and Warren Olson. Then there is the story about the fist fight in a Midwest beer hall with Tony Bettenhausen and J.C. Agajanian. Try imagining that happening today.

What a straight shooter the guy is!
