I don't know if anyone has done such a comparison before - but I was musing that I had never attended a GP, and was put off by the high ticket prices. Then I thought, well what do other sporting events cost: so I went on the net and collected as many prices as I could find. I was astonished at the result, which seems to show that F1 is actually quite good value.

Of course, I didn't factor in the cost of flights and hotels when attending a GP.

Mind you, if one did a matrix "cost/duration/entertainment value", I am not so sure where F1 would come

Event Duration Price Range

Formula1 GP 3 days $142 – 700
Daytona 500 1 day (?) $170 – 1,235
Indy 500 1 day $100 – 780
Nascar 1 day $85
Boxing: Mike Tyson 1 evening $100 – 2,500
Superbowl XXXIX ½ day (?) $1,200– 6,000
Golf: Augusta Masters 4 days $3,500
Gymnastics 1 day $385
Horses: Kentucky Derby 1 day $375 – 1,300
Olympics:
Athletics ½ day $85 – 450
Soccer 1 match $80 – 180
Sailing 1 day $385
Opening Ceremony 2 hours(?) $1,295 – 2,080
Tennis: US Open Final 1 day $2,025 – 2,500

Others:
Samba Parade, Rio 2 days $500 – 3,100
Andrea Bocelli 1 evening $515
Disney on Ice 1 evening $105
Barnum & Bailey 1 evening $110 – 135
Rod Stewart 1 evening $195 – 715
Fleetwood Mac 1 evening $295 – 520

PS: I think I'll watch the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies on the tele - save myself a cool $4000 plus air fares and hotels.

I would never pay over 2000$ to see a tennis match that is for sure.

Exactly. That's probably the reason why some guys perfer to engage an escort for a one-night stand rather than go for a F1 GP race!!

British Gp starts at $360 for 3 days ( if you didn't get the deal ) Sunday only was $180+

You didn't search very well

I can get Daytona 500 for as low as $95 (backstretch grandstand) here

At Indianapolis alone

lowest Nascar $60 race day
lowest F1 $75 race day
Lowest 500 $40 (race day south terrace) $65 if you actually want to see something

Masters tickets are sold out YEARS in advance even still I can get them for less than $1000 for Sunday with a bit of searching

Face value from the organisers? read this...

"Tournament or "Series" Badges (Thursday through Sunday) have been sold to those on our patron list, which was closed due to demand in 1972. A first waiting list began in 1972, and was closed in 1978. A new waiting list was established in 2000, and it too is now closed. No applications for "Series" Badges are currently being accepted."
So getting to the masters with a non second hand ticket is nigh on impossible. Same with the US open so you aren't declaring like with like.

I suspect the superbowl tickets aren't face value either.

Thanks for the comparison, it does put things in perspective.
