I'll be travelling to London this weekend would take a peek at a few classics while I'm out there. Anything in particular you would recommend?

Head for South Kensington, where several emporia will have some great cars on display.
Check one of the appropriate magazines for the showroom addresses - anything with an SW5 postcode would be worth a look.
Not sure how much you'll see on a weekend though.

It's always worth taking a look at Bristol Cars' showroom up towards the Holland Park end of Kensington High Street. As well as some of their new vehicles there are usually some older cars in residence. Marque owner Tony Crook apparently still turns up regularly - must be well into his 80s now?

There isn't much by way of museums in London itself. There is a listing here:-

Brooklands is worth a visit if you have the time - it is only a 30 minute train ride (Waterloo to Weybridge) and then a 10 minute walk from the station.

The dramatic classic car showroom in London is Coy's of Kensington, who are in Queens Gate Mews, just behind the Royal Albert Hall. Even better, facing this showroom full of umpteen million pounds worth of pre-war and racing hardware, is a [not too bad] pub! Just don't be tempted to pay Coys prices though!

Or I think you can look through little windows into Gregor Fiskin's place when they're closed - Queens Gate Place Mews - which is a few roads away

The nearby Science Museum also displays something of the history of motoring.

Other than that, as a showroom, I can only think of Classic Chrome in Mortlake if you feel the desperate urge to look at '60s MG-Bs and so on

Chelsea Cars which (despite the name) is on the Wandsworth one way system is always full of lovely stuff. Just in case you venture south of the river. :)

I second BRG's endorsement of Brooklands. I drive past it every day, so I suppose I take it for granted, but many people have spoken of a special feeling whilst standing on the banking and soaking up the past. The museum has plenty of classic cars, bikes and aircraft.
