The BMW-Williams cars have "Invent' on the wing. Yes, it is supposed to reflect HPs involvement with the team but anyone know why the word 'invent' - what does it aim to portray? :smoking:

"Invent" dosen't have anything specifically to do with their F1 involvement, it's a general ad campaign they've been running for several years. Here's a snippet from a 06 Feb 2002 news release on HP's web site:

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced that it filed 5,000 patent applications worldwide in its fiscal year 2001 -- an average of 20 inventions each business day. In the two years since the company launched its "Invent" campaign, the number of patent filings has more than doubled thanks to a shift in HP's intellectual property (IP) strategy.

HP's "Invent" campaign began in December 1999. To improve innovation across the company, HP increased its emphasis on the importance of patents and boosted financial incentives both for invention disclosures, the first step toward getting a patent, and for application filings.

it seemed to me at the time that the name Invent was chosen to, in the longterm, replace the names of Compaq and Hewlett-Packard.

They tried putting HP on the back wing and couldn't straignthen it out long enough to fit so they put two small decals on the rear wing to try and help. I guess they figured small letters spelling out "Hewlet Packard" wouldn't be seen well.

Ivent seemed to be the best of their options.

Its always taken into considertion, what can the sponsor do on the car to get reconized. Marlboro and McLaren dropped Marlboro's name on the sidepod and put it on the engine cover in 1987 because the sidepods were getting smaller and curvy.

JPS could never quite decide completely if "John Player" or "John Player Special" would be better.

Really "Invent" on the rear wing is kind of an obscure slogan though. :)

Plus it's the lettering is not that big, it's kinda hard to see any contrast against the white wing, so I don't think it works that well.

"Invent", "Innovate", you know, technological advancement, digital gadgetry, computer mumbo jumbo, laser printers ... that kinda stuff...

It's just computer industry marketing bullshit.....

IBM had for a long while the marketing slogan of "Think".

It's the same sort of thing.

INVENT works nicely with their marketing campaigns, sticks to their core message and fits nicely on the wing.
