I'm not sure, but is this a 4-point seatbelt system? There are 6 straps, but only 4 ending in the lock.

The two straps going forward are the crotch staraps. They have loops in the end and these are fed through the lap belts. This is the common way of having a 6-point harness in a cramped single seater cockpit.

Ahhhh
Now I understand!!! On closer examination of the photo I can see that it is in fact anchored in 6 places not 4. So the original statement that it was a 4 point harness is incorrect! The rules changed in 1972 so that all F1 cars had a 6 point harness that was compulsorary which is why the statement that the BT55 had 4 was confusing me!
I think somebody is going to have to change the information on their web site!! It was definitely a 6 point harness and not a 4 it was just configured differently.

Having now spoken to two Branham mechanics that were around at the time of the BT55 it definitely had a 6 point harness, just laid out differently due to the lack of space.
The information that is all over the internet that the BT55 had a 4 point harness is most definitely incorrect!

Thank you everybody for your help I think we can draw a line under this one now.
