Has anyone on TNF got any pictures of the winners trophy from the ill fated 1955 Le Mans 24 hours? I ask as I now the son of the man that designed and made it, and he has never seen a picture of it, and his dad hasn't got any, (although he is still alive and still making and mending watches) Thanks in advance, because if it doesn't happen on TNF, it ain't going to happen!!!!

From an expo in the village in 1995. I 'think' it was the 1955 trophy.

Thanks for that! I'll show it to his dad, he should know it when he sees it, and I'll let you know. Thanks again

I was curious about this topic. I have seen several pictures of Hawthorn and Bueb with the winner's garlands of flowers, but no pictures of them with a trophy. Was there an actual trophy ceremony after such a sad race?

I also saw this story in an article about LeMans 1955:

"When Hawthorn was handed the traditional winner's bottle of champagne, he absentmindedly drank from it. Later that week, L'Auto Journal would run a picture of this with the bitterly sarcastic caption, 'A VOTRE SANTE, MONSIEUR HAWTHORN!' (To your health, Mr. Hawthorne).

Hardly surprising considering the vitriol aimed at Hawthorn in the wake of the tragedy, for which many openly blamed him. I ws told the trophy presentation was abandoned as poor taste, but I'm open to correction on that

Many years after the original post but the Mike Hawthorn site has a story about the sale of a 'The Motor' trophy which includes a photo, at the bottom of the page, of the ACO trophy from 1955.

For me this looks extremely similiar to the Mille Miglia trophies...

Whoever wrote the piece above didn't know his Greek mythology, Perseus was a bloke not a Gee-Gee, does he mean Pegasus?

Just checked, Horses crossed with Serpents or Dragons are Hippocampi.

I shall try and get "the son" to see this, and maybe his father can confirm it!
