Hello!

Somehow I am unable to find some decent photos of the late Willy Mairesse driving a Grand Prix car. I've only managed to get a hold on two of them (pit photo at Reims in 1961 and the second one from the 1963 Monaco GP).

Could anyone provide some photos? I'd be very grateful :)

There is a book on Willy Mairesse who went out not long ago, its title is " Willy Mairesse,
le chevalier meurtri " by Christophe A .Gaascht, Nostalgia Editions. French & English text.

Do you know it ?

I've heard about a certain book, but I didn't know it features English text as well as French.

You should also look in Rainer Schlegelmilch's "Portraits of the 60s - Formula 1"...there are some photos of Mairesse: two portraits (from Spa 1962 and 1963), one shot with Surtees and Forghieri, taken at LeMans in 1963, two pictures showing the aftermath of two big crashes (Spa 1962 and Le Mans 1963).
Unfortunately, there's only one photo with Willy at the wheel, and it was taken just after the start of the 1963 Belgian GP.

I don't know if it's in all editions, but my copy of Enzo Ferrari's My Terrible Joys contains some pictures of Mairesse. The Belgian driver also wrote the preface, so that may have something to do with it... :p

There's a picture of Mairesse at speed during the 1962 German Grand-Prix in Alan Henry's Grand-Prix Driver by Driver.

I've bought this book some time ago. Luckily I didn't have to purchase it via online store, so I didn't waist much time.

Thanks for the tip

I'll keep looking for the other items mentioned here :p

Classic & Sportscar 10/95 has a four page article on Willy with several pictures, including a beautiful color shot of him in the Ferrari at Brussels in 1962.

And of course the hard cover edition of "The Cruel Sport" (text and photos by Robert Daley, 1963) has some shots of Willy, including the injured driver wrapped in a blanket after the accident at Spa in 1962.

You can buy it online at the Editions Palmier but maybe somewhere else too. The book is in French but provided with an English translation.

I can strongly recommend the book. It contains great photos and tells Mairesse's life story
in a very well researched way.
