It's one of the most beautiful Fomula 1 ever, World Champion in 1981 with Nelson PIQUET, the time of the wing cars. You will see a big focus on the car here :

I agree - like the Lotus 25, the BT49 looked just as good with the body off.

Just look at that rear suspension - Papa's got a brand new CNC milling machine !

Exactly, but this is because they were designed by the same man, Gordon MURRAY, a pure genius.

True, but they were always careful with the paint schemes - compare the Forti sponsored by Parmalat to the Brabham-Alfas or Cossies with the same sponsor.

Nice to see Gordon Murray being given due credit for Ecclestone-period Formula 1 Brabham design and construction standards. The discreet and tasteful design of the Parmalat livery on those cars - I believe - was the work of Pete Stevens - stylist of the Jaguar XJR15, Lotus Elan M100, and later of Gordon's McLaren F1, plus all kinds of other projects in between. He became styling director of the Rover Group and is visiting professor in vehicle design to the Royal College of Art. He's also the nephew of Denis Jenkinson...and an all-round bon oeuf.

Yes, I agree about Gordon Murray deserving credit. All his Brabhams were attractive, and he's a nice chap too.

This is one I took of Piquet in the BT49 during practice at Vegas '81.

And, with the advent of the F1 Paddock a year earlier, it was none other than BCE who put the spare BT44B on display for the great unwashed at Silverstone in 1975...

No, the Grand Prix.. I did not make it to the International Trophy in '75.. one of the few British F1 races I missed between 1969 & 1977

Interesting comment by Twinny I think re Bernie's cars always looking good. One of the guys I worked with at FOM (well loads of them actually, but one in particular) was ex Brabham, Nigel de Strayter (No1 mech to Amati for one) old me that when Bernie first saw the BT52, he loved it, but not the colours, well the layout at least, and told them to respray it but with the white and blue reversed, and he was right, it did look better!!

I had no idea that Jenks and Stevens were related until the radio prog last week about Moss and the MM. I have admired both for entirely different reasons. To discover this relationship is fascinating in some strange way.

There's one driven by Murray Smith, I assume he is the owner?
