Doing this for an acquaintance:

"I was wondering if you could suggest someone who would know the car number and result of the events in which Paddy Hopkirk ran in Aust. A friend of mine was the Comps Manager at Abingdon and is writing a book on Paddy Hopkirk and needs the information for his book.
The events were and questions are:

1965 Armstrong 500 Bathurst car no.?
1966 Gallaher 500 Bathurst place?
1966 Southern Cross Rally car no?
1967 Southern Cross rally car no?
1967 Gallaher 500 Bathurst car no?

I hope you can help"

1100 not 1100S  not driven by Evan but a couple of ladies (for publicity reasons I would think) Evan does the commentary of the race. It also features some stunt driving at Zetland by Paddy and Timo.

Note to self, watch tape again!

I've got the Sandown tape too, and just watched it:

Paddy Hopkirk / John Fitzpatrick, car no 60, finished 5th (they were running 2nd until Hopkirk had an off and cracked the distributor cap with about half an hour to go).

The ladies in the 1100 were Diane Layton (or Leighton?) and Kaye Whiteford.

'Leighton'... wife of Jon Leighton, who ran a race driving school (Birchwood?)...

And Kaye Whiteford, the lovely daughter of Doug, to unfortunately die in a Jaguar on her honeymoon.

You can go back and edit or delete posts.

On the bottom right hand corner of your own posts where it normally says 'Report this Post to Hosts' it says 'Edit/Delete' instead. Just click on there and follow instructions.

You'll see a lot of my posts have been edited after I saw the typos.

The registration # was "SMO 226G", and he was sharing the driving with Tony Nash and Alec Poole.

With a little luck, Paddy could have won, I believe the rear hydrolastic suspension collapsed towards the end....the support crew wanted to swap over the rear sub frame form the 1800 Ute "barge"....however, they were told to wait for the part to be flown in...something like a 15 hour delay.
