Many thanks for making me feel welcome an apologies that my only contribution to the conversation seemd to revolve around a myopic ability to talk exclusively about Sprites and Sprinzel.
Richie, I was thinking that there is a massive gap in the market for the tracking and collating of information regarding Banger Racing drivers from the mid 1960's to the late 1980's. That should give you something to do after you've cleared up the remaining 203 mysteries :p

:D
Fair do's. I'll scrap that F2 project then... ;)

Don't worry Gary, I found your conversation illuminating and interesting, and the good thing about these events, and the reason I've missed being at these nights is there are enough knowledgable people with a wide variety of interests to keep everything on tick.

I am also pleased there is someone else who wakes up sweating at night that there are people hanging on everything they say about the most obscure of details... I was beginning to think that was just me. :)

Thanks again to Richard for arranging it and everyone for making it a pleasant night.

Yet another very enjoyable evening at the Tudor Oakand nice to meet with Richie at last. Thanks again to Sterling for acting as chauffeur last night and here is to the film show in May.

For the record (and those of you in the North West who keep records) the turnout included Tony Matthews, RTH, David Holland.garyfrogeye (and yes he was late but he had to remove the dead flies from his teeth before entering the pub), Richie Jenkins, condor, Sterling49, DN5, yours truly and of course Daisy.

Topics of conversation included -
London-Sydney Marathon
John Sprinzel
Unintentionally upsetting other TNF members
Sprites
Silverstone circuit
John Sprinzel
NHS waiting times
Phil Dowsett

and many more.

Many thanks to all of you for attending, I know several of you have very long return trips ( and travel is not cheap these days ) and your attendance is much appreciated by all of us in making it a most entertaining and enjoyable gathering.

It must be a sign of the times that we were the only people in the pub all night ! When we started these meetings back in early 2003 was it ? First at Woburn then for the last nearly 5 years at the Tudor Oaks the pubs were packed out and we could not get seats.
Last night we had the entire place to ourselves and fantastic service, food was excellent, from the lady running the place ........to the extent that she seemed very keen to book us in for our next meeting as soon as possible.

We must make better use of the summer warm weather this year and fix meetings so that we can sit outside on pleasant sunny evenings. Thanks to all for making the effort, very good evening. How about another one June/July ?

So sorry to have missed it - sure it would have been much more enjoyable than talking about the provision of allotments and affordable housing.

Hope to catch the next one, especially as it's amost on my doorstep. If we could avoid Mondays, it would help - second Monday of the month is invariabbly Parish Council, first Monday is the pub meet of the LGCCVCC* which I always try to get to but often fail.

Great night as usual, good to catch up again. Sorry I didn't get much chance to talk to Gary, Richard and Geoff who were at the other end of the table.

Glyn, you forgot to mention Caroline's morse code microwave in the subjects discussed!

Here's to the next meeting, especially if the weather means we can sit outside. That's if they're still in business - as Richard rightly said it wasn't exactly over-run with customers....like many pubs today.

(A Tuesday night would suit equally as well for me if it helps)

Why don't we all join you at the Parish Council meeting, Tony? What we have to say could come under 'Any Other Matters'.

Another enjoyable evening  Since I'd been to the Stondon transport museum earlier that was a topic of discussion as well...it's a very quirky place - I think Tony and daughter are planning a visit there soon.
To accomadate Odseybod perhaps we can arrange our Monday night gatherings for the last 2 weeks of the month, summer months are always difficult as there's holidays and all the motorsport events to attend.
The food was excellent - Sterling and I got extra scampi as the 'plaice' was obviously trying to encourage us to return quickly.

A kind offer, Tony, but it's a bit lacking in refreshment until after the meeting. And besides, you'd find it very frustrating, as the planning policies for South Cambs are completely at odd with those for North Herts - so you might get false hopes of eligibility for a particularly extensive shed as a planning obligation, only to have them dashed once you crossed back over the border. And that would not be fair.

No mention of Condor's Morse code microvwave at our meeting either, by the way.

I forgot to say that I had a wonderful drive home, roof down on an almost deserted A1, clear skies and bright stars. There were times when no other vehicles could be seen at all and I had the A1 completely to myself.

It's odd - the roads were strangely clear all day. I only had to go about a ¼mile as the crow flies to where I am currently working, but three times that in the local one way system, normally chocker at 8 am. Yesterday - two or three cars. I thought it was like 'The Day of the Triffids'! Same on the way to and from The Tudor Oaks. Perhaps that explains the lack of customers apart from us. Are we unwittingly taking part in some experiment? Have we been selected by the lizzards to start civilisation again, learning from our mistakes? Shall we start a new religion based on condor's microwave?

Strange but true I saw very few cars on the 22 mile drive home as well.

I also enjoyed the night and like others marvelled at the lack of traffic on the way home.

Looking forward to the next event (the film show/quiz).

There was much talk about possible team combinations for that though

Yeah, come to think of it the roads were very quiet.

Maybe folks have started the exodus to Siberia now that it supposed to be getting warmer. Richard mentioned this last night and we discussed hosting the first TNF meeting there, unless we're too late already and it's getting over-run with out-of-townies.

David, thanks for reminding me about Siberia but look what happens when you mention Condor's morse code microwave, all a load of "%$£@~#s. :drunk:

By the way all the traffic was stuck in the roadworks on the M25 (anticlockwise) which is why we all had such a traffic free journey on Monday. :smoking:

Glad we've cracked the code (or found the website that does it). I was in danger of feeling smug

Lack of traffic very odd chaps, I noticed it too on Monday up here. Even given school hols at the moment, it was amazingly uncongested around Preston on Monday. Was it one of these 'fuel protest/don't support the fuel companies' days that you see on emails??

It comes from this Paddock Club thread which is about 5 years old, so is in the archives.

Sterling mentioned it Monday night and the others that don't venture into the PC got a brief run down of what happenned. Could be you hadn't turned up by then.

I know about the microwave, condor, it's just that I hadn't sussed how to translate Morse, and so knew not of which what was done bein spoken of about. Now, I am fluent in Morse and the World is my ostrich.
