Well, here goes. This time I will try to dispense with the thumbnail.....

Took this pic of Clay at the 1976 Canadian GP.......shot this as Clay was leaving the Moss Corner "complex" and was just before he started up the Andretti Straight.

Your last post is missing the [ at the start of the code, that is all that is stopping the pic showing.

Your images in .png format are over 300kb and only 35kb as jpg ;)
Thanks

Edit: I think your Jones photo is from 1979... it is a Williams FW07B

Rob

did this one in jpeg. This was shot at Watkins Glen in 1979. It was shot on Friday during qualifying. This shot is of Jody.....he was 2nd in qualifying......and was ONLY 11 seconds slower of Gilles !!! The sad part is that the monsoon conditions were so bad that I put away my camera so it wouldn't get ruined and never got a pic of Gilles that afternoon.

Wow Murph - I've just been saying how lovely your paddock shots are and now I see these! Amazing, well done. Were they all taken from spectator areas?

Option 1 and smarjoram

thanks for the kind words.......

Pics were taken from spectator areas, for the most part. Let me explain, one of the great things about going to races at Mosport Park and the Glen in the '70's was the basic lack of security in the pits during the Friday morning sessions. At Mosport, All one basically had to do is look the part of the real "photo guys".....wear outlandish clothes and look like ya were a "roadie" for the Stones. At the Glen, you bought a ticket for the Kendall Garages that was open 24 hours. The spectators walked down the center aisle while the teams worked on their cars in stalls. Also, one has to remember that the Canadian & USGP were the last 2 races of the season.......there was a very relaxed atmosphere and the teams were very open and friendly to us spectators.

When the Canadian GP moved to Montreal the organizers were at first very fan friendly. They used to sell a Paddock pass to us regular Joes and in '83 and '84 they sold a "Pit Pass". The pits hadn't been built yet so everything was out in the open. There was a spectator pathway behind the cars but if you were particularly sneaky and very quick, you could "pop" out of that lane and get off a couple of shots before scurrying back into the crowd.

I will put up a couple of pics later in the day....

again, thanks for the kind words...

Here is a pic of the P34 on the Andretti Straight at Mosport Park in '76....I apologize about the dirt on the pic as I realize that I have to start cleaning my slides now that I'm going to start scanning them....again I apologize

Since I don't have too many cleaned & scanned pics from the past....I decided to throw up a couple of images I took last year as I went "digital".

Montoya out of turn 10 at Friday practice at the USGP

Posted Image

I always liked Fred....he is one of a number of ex-Minardi drivers...Forza Minardi..... Fred is doing his best to plow the north 40 during practice at the USGP

Posted Image

Last is a pick of Michael I took during the Belgian GP..... needless to say, Spa is simply awesome...and is an amerature photo junkies dream with so many good photo opportunities....normally I shoot only in Raw format but I found these pics had jpeg files with them.

Posted Image

I will go now and start organizing my slides and start scanning...if I find something intresting I'll put it up....again, sorry for the 2004 pics but right now that's all I got......

It's entirely possible that I'm inventing my own memories here…

In the early 70s CanAm cars were the favorite body styles for slot cars because of their width and potential for low centre of gravity. Rules had to be brought in to limit maximum width and minimum height because people were distorting body shapes to gain advantages.

I seem to remember that the Shadow body was actually illegal if it was reproduced acurately to scale because it was too wide (or too low).

Or it might have been the March :

PS I think I've still got a nice 1/32 312P body somewhere, accurate in every dimension of course.

Geoff

I think it would have been the GP. The 450S only lasted a couple of laps and the engine detonated just before the pits. It was quite a mess and needed a new crank. Sadly the new crank was incorrectly balanced and it moved all 8 wet liners down so it had to have a second rebuild. It was just a tiny wee bit expensive. I had to pay for the first bit and that made my eyes water, and that was only a fraction of the total. I think we only did 2 more events with the car after that, the VSCC all Maserati race and a MM Retro.

I have no photos of that meeting & would love a copy if poss so pm sent. Regards Andrew

Yes it's the 917 chassis 030 which ran at Zeltweg 1000 kms with Larrousse and Marko (upper photo). Then the car was used to test the ABS for future use on road cars.

Converted in road car 917#030 was sold to Count Rossi in 1975. (lower photo)

Derek Bell was driving 917-004 or 917-017 depending on how you view the numbering system, so its not the same car.
The car is unpainted as it had just been rebuilt by Kremer I think. at the same time the car was used by them as a template for there recreation, or I may be mistaken but I am sure I have heard that somewhere.

Oh my gawd! Those where heady days.

Do you remember that there were so may cars for the LLoyds & Scottish that the sports cars & open wheelers were split into two grids? I think it was the next year that Obrist paid for a centre spread in Autosport of himself.

That A6 handled just beautifully, didn’t have the power for the weight of that chassis though, perhaps more of a Mille Miglia rather than a circuit car. 5 years later I got to drive the other Masser in your photos Geoff. That was really fun!

(thanks for the pm) Regards Andrew

Some of the flatbed scanners from the likes of HP and Epson have a slide and negative scanning capability ... for instance ... http://www.photo-i.c...3200/page_1.htm

or you can buy a dedicated slide scanner such as this Canon model that I bought secon hand recently ... http://www.cix.co.uk...10f/can2710.htm

Alternatively, some processing labs will scan a batch of slides. This could be the cheaper option if you only have a handful of slides to be scanned.

Good Advice Frank. Personally I'd avoid HP (just my own experience YMMV). Epson scanners have a very good rep.

There is something called DIGITAL ICE that is technology used by Nikon and some Epson scanners that is pretty amazing in restoring slides automatically - I highly recommend it.

I bought a Nikon dedicated slide/negative scanner (with Digital Ice) off eBay recently - I don't have that many slides/negatives I want to do - so went for the last generation SCSI connection verson for a $100-150 (IIRC) and it is great. The newer ones are even better.

I've just bought an Epson 2580 to do slides. Seems to work OK and most of the reviews I found were favourable.
