Right on. It has become a trade-mark for him... coincidentally I remember Mika enjoying his share of shampagne on the podium as well. ;)

Imagine if the paparazzi caught him smoking a West after humping that dolphin? RD and NH would probably have simultaneous aneurysms.

From ITV site:

Kimi Raikkonen has apologised after photos of him on a boozy bender in Gran Canaria appeared in the German press.

Bild pictured the Finn in a variety of embarrassing situations under the headline ‘Is he drinking away his career?’

Raikkonen was photographed gyrating with a singer in a nightclub, having to be propped up by a fellow reveller and finally collapsing in a heap on the street.

Asked for his reaction to the incident, Raikkonen told a Finnish newspaper: “I must say sorry!”

But the 25-year-old went on to voice his frustration that he could not let his hair down without stories appearing in the press.

He said: “I was drunk all right? I had a few drinks and danced - why shouldn't I? Everyone relaxes in different ways. Sometimes I wish I were just a normal chap.”

Raikkonen’s antics have been condemned by former driver Hans Stuck, now a pundit on German TV.

Stuck said he could not imagine Michael Schumacher finding himself in such a situation – conveniently forgetting that Schuey had been snapped at Suzuka last year in a similarly boozy state.

Stuck added: “A Formula 1 driver cannot drink publicly in such a way. Raikkonen is a role model for millions of children and young people.”

I'm getting off-topic here, but could someone explain what a "dolphin" is ? A hot babe? Any babe? This is an honest question since I was just curious, and apparently one of the few Americans here.

Thanks!

BTW, Budweiser is not good beer, but then neither is Fosters, Heineken, Corona, St. Pauly Girl, etc etc. I actually like this Taiwanese beer called "Taiwan Beer", or a nice dark ale that we have here called "Anchor Steam".

As far as celebrity self-imposed stress.......this is no different from "normal chap" self-imposed stress. We all do stuff like get drunk in public, especially us younger guys. The issue is not whether that is normal, but rather should there be a different (higher) standard set for celebrities? In other words, is it wrong for Kimi to get drunk and make a fool of himself, and should one of us "normal" chaps condemn him for it? I never said that someone who's suffering from stress due to a child's illness, or a wife's chemotherapy can't go get himself drunk. What I said was that we all have our own stress, or own pain, and none of us can escape that fact. Who among us would dispute this?

I read it somewhere...and when these guys drink, they seriously consume some alcohol.!!
It was only a month ago when Finnish skijumping legend Tommi Nykannen ended up
in jail (2 years?) when he stabbed his best friend after a drinking session."

Matt Nykanen is the biggest skijumper so far in sport history. No one has yet broken his records of wins, olympic golds or world cup golds in skii jumping. He was at his top in the late 80's and it was him who created that "flying finn" legend. As far as I can remember from my finnish friend, who used to be a huge fan of matti, the guy lived like the rock stars. changed the women just like we change our shirts and underwear. Drinked a lot. Specially after his active career as a ski jumper. His alcohol consumption got worse and he sold his every medals and trophies for very little money just to buy more to drink.

Theres no way that Kimi would be like him.

Are you sure of this? Let another dissapointing year pass and wait and see what the finn does next -lol.

As for Mr. Joachim-Stuck *pretending* he's never seen/heard about Schumacher boozing, I'm sure he prefered to disregard the pictures -which went over the net- of Schumacher(s) at Suzuka's 2003 end of season party in quite a boozy state... That very night, Raikkonen & Schumacher actually fought -while both being drunk- and had to be separated by Ferrari & Mclaren personel... I gather it was Raikkonen who initiated the *fight*.

A young man who left Sauber to McLaren with the sole intention and complete focus of realising his dream of becoming the youngest WDC ever... failed and probably now realises his chances to achieve this are now deeply burried in the sand, so he can now focus on other things -like drinking- in his youthful life! With all respect to Mr. Raikkonen though, his failure was primarily due to the inability of McLaren & Michelin to produce all-round top-notch championship winning equipments - but that's another topic.

Well what about Ralfie investing in the the german erotic company Beahte Uhse? There's nothing wrong with -good- sex, so I had nothing wrong with that move of Ralf. Raikkonen did something good for himself personally by letting his hair down, and I got nothing with that as well. From the outside though, it's percieved and taken a bit differently, especially from sponsors I guess...

-Keep Racing

And this was confirmed by...who? All I heard was they fought with toy hammers. Surely a serious situation.

"... I gather it was Raikkonen who initiated the *fight*."

Same question.

Yeah, I´m sure Kimi feels he is a complete failure now that he "failed" to beat Schumacher and become the youngest WDC ever. Expect him to become an alcoholic now.

To dislike someone as an F1 driver is one thing, as is to not rate their talent, but to move onto that kind of personal assumption and obsessive abuse is the behaviour of stalkers and other such seriously unhinged characters.

First time ever I agree with you. Still I belive F 1 needs persons. MS have rarely shown in public
he is a personality too. And because of it I disslike him less as a driver. Its nice that Mac have 2 driver with colorful personality in they team...

I first learned about it from a french TV programm called Autocritiques (a round-table discussion programm of events in F1) which airs on french Eurosport every 2 Mondays or so -after a GP. The journalists who reported this were witnesses!. That same week I read it again on pitpass.com - a usualy reliable site.

Hmm. Maybe Ron ordered Kimi to get some right kind of publicity in order to smooth the sponsorship negotiations?;)

Seriously, I can't see a booze brand as Mac's, or any other team's, title sponsor.

FLAV: GOOD WORK, KIMI!
Last Updated: Monday, 21, February, 2005, 17:20

Flavio Briatore has defended Kimi Raikkonen’s off-track indiscretions this winter.

Raikkonen has come in for flak after being snapped on a drunken bender in Gran Canaria before Christmas, and accused of misbehaving in a London lap-dancing club in January.

But Renault boss Briatore, whose love of the playboy lifestyle is part of F1 legend, sees nothing wrong with the Finn’s antics.

He told the Sunday Telegraph: "If Raikkonen was my driver and he went to a club for a drink and some fun, I would have no problem with that.

"We have to understand that a young driver is not a robot. As long as he is not drinking the night before a race, why not?

"You don't want drivers to be like book-keepers. A driver needs to have a personality.

"What Raikkonen did is like a breath of fresh air. Maybe he should be given a drink before he speaks to the press in future."

Briatore admitted that he despairs of many of the lack of charisma of many of the sport’s young drivers.

He said: "Now the kids look like they are fabricated.

"They're all the same. I don't recognise 60 percent of them out of their overalls. I used to know them all - now I can't even pronounce some of their names."
