When wheels are adverised at having 'force feedback' do the actually have force-feedback or do they actually mean 'it vibrates a little bit when you go off track'? :)

I've been playing on my uncles playstation and Colin McRae. It has force feedback, but at the end of the day its not like arcade machines where wheel is fighting your movements. Instead it really just makes a slight vibration, more or less totally unrelated to whats the cars doing. The actual position of the wheel is still just controlled by a couple of springs. Do wheels exist where for example if you spin you might find the wheel suddenly turning itself left/right [but not quite as violently as in a real f1 car, I don't want broken fingers :)]

Mr A,

It depends on the quality of the FF in the game. For example; GPL's FF is the best I've ever felt. You can feel the car slipping and sliding through the wheel - giving you time to correct the car before it snaps away from you. The wheel will more or less behave like it would in a real car, you have to wrestle the car through the turns sometimes.

GP3's FF isn't bad either, not as strong or quite as well put together but not bad.

is it a case of pc feedback is far superior to the PS's attempt at force-feedback?

Are any of the wheels & games advanced enough so that, for example if you were to break the suspension that the wheels "return to" point might no longer be dead centre?

PSX pretend feedback is just that, 'pretend'. The quality of the FF in a PC depends on how well it is modelled in the game you are playing.

Yes, if you break the suspension in GPL the handling gets screwed up and the wheel's TDC (top dead centre) won't be the same anymore (until you get it fixed in the pits!)

FF is only as good as the game you are playing.

Linus27, don't you have the 'pitcrew' option enabled? When I go into the pits, several animated mechanics come out of the garage and get busy with the spanners. One of the even offers me a cup of tea and then wipes my visor with a huge badly pixalated hand (just like in GP3! :p )

If you just shift-R then you miss all that!

Dam, those bloody Ferrari mechanics are useless now and useless back then. I drive in the pits and they go, "Yeah and what do you want". I say "err puncture, new tyre would be nice" and they say "ah piss off" then go back and watch TV. Useless. Now I know how Eddie Irvine felt after Nurburg 99.

Hey lets face it, mosrt girls find me impossible to resist and Minx(614David) is no exception. Its not her fault, don't blame her, I'm just a babe magnet and there is nothing you or me can do about it. It's a condition I have had to live with all my life. I know, you want to send me money and gifts to help ease my pain but thats OK, I won't make you feel guilty if you do, just don't send small amounts of money because the guilt will kill you. Make it a big one of payment, your feel better for it and feel you have done something to help me ease this pain. I did go to hospital to get help but it was not a good idea because of all the nurses went crazy and ripped all my clothes off. Well what could I do to resist, there was so many of them. So I have to live in secret, locked away from the outside world. Hard life I know.

PS Make your big cheques payable to Linus27

MrAerodynamicist. Getting back to the subject i use a Wingman Formula Force wheel. The wheel is awesome, the pedals suck and you have to modify them a little to get more travel for the brake ped. The force is controlled by metal wires/cables/straps. Really strong.
