Swedens Lotta Hellberg died last friday after a long time of illnes at the age of only 34.
She was the most succesful female kart-driver ever, 4th in the world championship 1989, and she was also crowned champion in Belgium, Holland, Sweden, Denmark and Finnland.
She died peacefully in her home in Holland, where she had married Dutchman Piet de Bruin.

I remember her, I could still picture her helmet in my mind. One of the best designs by the way. She was awesome, not only one of the best female karters, but one of the best ever. No doubt! Anyways, it is so sad that she died so young. Did she have any kids?

Shouldn't the most successful female kart-driver ever be Susanna Raganelli who won the World Championship in 1966 (beating Ronnie Peterson in 3rd place)?

Ah, yes, Susanna of course! Sorry.
But Lotta was at least World Champion in my little home-town!

Always wondered what became of her. She was getting started and being successful as my own 'career' wound down. She seemed so much like the real female talent that could go all the way. R.I.P.

Vroom Magazine, the reference / best karting magazine out there... just posted an article about Lotta, to remember her because it's now 20 years ago that she sadly passed away...
