Their electronic supply is different. It wouldn't run or cut short the first time you turn it on.

There are a few electronic companies that sell European(UK) ps2's here in the US with the power coverters for them. I have already decided to get it. But, not just yet.Originally posted by grg

I am in the US and an amateur in gaming/consoles. I want to play F1 05 in the US and I've been discovering that it is not as easy as I thought. I have questions regarding this and I would appreciate if somebody could help me. As far as I researched, there are two options to play F1 05 with NTSC TV in the US.
1. Buy a European PS2 and assorted converters. Any idea of the price of European PS2 in US? The least I could find was for $250 (100 bucks more than the US PS2!)
2. Is it possible to buy a US PS2, buy the F1 05 game and patch the game such that it works in a NTSC PS2 console? I saw some sites which give instructions for converting a PAL game to NTSC, but will this work for F1 05?

1. order a "swap magic 3" for the slim version ps2.
2. order the game.
3. follow the instructions on the swapmagic3.com website. place the bits in the specific places.
NOTE: you do not have to break the warranty or open your ps2 for this to work.
4. once you've placed the bits, insert the swap magic 3 dvd.
5. swap in the F105 disc, switch to PAL and go to "load game".
game should play. within the game, adjust the screen position if necessary. i had to adjust my screen position a lot because it was so far down and to the right.

I guess it's supposed to be one of 'the killer applications' for Playstation 3 in spring.

Uh...Formula One 2005 is not so good game you should waste money on it.
In fact you could wait till PS3 release and get season 2006 game for it.
Who knows if all areacode PS2 games will work with it?

I picked it out of a bargain bin a few days ago and would tend to agree with that assessment.
The physics model seems extremely poor compared to the Gran Turismo series. Driving too fast round a corner just seems to increase the turning radius. Even with all the driver aids turned off it's impossible to slide or spin the car. You can lower traction control to the minimum but all that seems to do is suddenly spin the car when you accelerate out of the slower corners: I don't think you can control it once it starts that spin and there doesn't seem to be any feeling that it's coming. Perhaps as you play it for longer you can develop some sense of skill, but given my initial impressions I won't be investing any time into it.
The damage model requires you to hit walls at 300 km/h several times before anything starts being broken off. There's no way to adjust this to make it more simulation like, but you can get involved in some pretty spectacular looking accidents, something that's lacking in the GT series.
The Sepang track in the game seems much flatter than the actual track though Spa does have height changes where I'd expect them. The engine sound is crap, as is the norm in driving games, but closer to annoying than merely unrealistic in this case.
On the plus side the Driving Force Pro wheel feels good with it and my 5 and 7 year old son's are really enjoying it, the virtual racing line and driver assistance definitely helping here. Even my 3 year old can more or less make it round a track, something that's impossible for him to achieve unaided in Gran Turismo. So in that sense it wasn't a complete waste of money.

I didn't meant it's 'so waste of money', but Ivan at USA is wondering to buy European PlayStation 2 for playing Sony Formula One 2005, which is not available in USA.

Yes and the reason for that is because:
1. I can get a Euro ps2 that works over here.
2. I have the game.
3. I can get a disk converter (as I have done), thanks to qwazy's info.
Got the disk the other day. Have yet to try it yet.
