I have these foggy childhood memories of attending a sports car race with father.
I'm from Galveston, Texas and I'm pretty sure the venue was an airport in Galveston
called Scholes Field. The time frame would be sometime between '66-'69. I haven't
been able to find any confirming info. Does anybody have any ideas for further
research? The usual search engine based net searches have been fruitless.
Maybe its a false memory.

If it's sports cars then it was probably sanctioned by the SCCA. http://www.scca.org Browse around the site. Pete Hylton is the SCCA "historian" and you can probably find his e-mail on that site. You might also find the SCCA region for that area, and I'm sure you'll be able to contact people who drove or worked at that track.

If it's not SCCA (and I don't know who it would be, otherwise), chances are some SCCA people would still know about it.

Yes, The track was called Scholes Field. It was at Galveston Municipal Airport and the circuit was a respectable 2.8 miles in length. The dates are interesting because Allen E. Brown, who is the authority on these matters says they only raced there in 1957 and 58, which is way earlier than your recollection.

Can't argue with that! If you can get a bead on the exact years you attended, I'll contact Allen Brown and he will no doubt do some further research to get a complete record of the active years of Scholes Field.

Racing at Galveston ran every year from 1957 until 1969.

San Jacinto Region of the SCCA and Galveston Jaycees etc. 2.8 miles.

1st Event: 6-7 July 1957.

19-20 April 1958. (See Road & Track, July 1958, Pages 53, 67.)

27-28 June 1959.

Galveston Municipal Airport was dubbed "Scholes Field" in late 1959.

3 July 1960.

1-2 July 1961.
