[B]Devils indeed![B]

At the Easter 1971 meeting a fabulous race between Bev Bond and Dave Walker finished with both cars crashing into each other at the elbow, the last corner of the race.

They both ended up just short of the finish line with stalled engines and only 3 wheels on Bonds car. All went quite… they were a long way ahead of Williamson. Then as the dust settled, a car was moving and Bond managed to scrape across the line with three wheels using the starter motor.(IIRC).

Anybody got any pictures? Any other 3 wheel finishes?

This was good racing, nearly as good as 1000cc..

Blimey, Charlie, you've got a good memory for a guy of 104 years old! ;)

Yes

You might say that racing was not my only interest!

Mallory Park defies the laws of physics! It's 1.35 miles long, it's got a very slow, uphill first gear hairpin, and yet in 1970, 1 Litre F3 cars with all of 120bhp to propel them through a four speed gearbox, lapped in 48s dead - 101.25 mph. The Esses, where the big saloon shunt is pictured in post 41 is a top gear corner...

Bev was in the Bob Howlings Ensign that day. I have that shunt on video. It is on the 'Motor Racing '70s Style' VHS tape that PP video published. A short clip of that race with commentary by Neville Hay. The tape features the BRSCC club films from 1970 & 71 and you can find it on e-bay in PP's e-bay store. Their other tapes - 'Motor Racing 60s Style' are also worth having.

I know it's not really anything to do with Devil's Elbow but here are the other pictures of the 962. They guy with the helmet and the long hair was/is the owner.

Haha, just noticed the spelling mistake too, whoops!!

I haven't got all the Porsche ones in my Photobucket account, so 'll scan some more in when I get home later but here's one of the Porsche and another couple, maybe taken by a few of the TNFers, no credits on the back unfortunately, so apologies.

962 1991 maybe?? I don't know the chassis details of the car though - TL's road Alfa 164 in the background

What are norks, M??? By the way, anyone know about the 962, an ex-TLD car perhaps?

Yeah I knew OK, fines, just me being sarcastic! IIRC she didn't have too much to see anyway, Nork-wise...

What about that 962 though, there weren't too many of them in Club Racing around 91-92??

A photo recenty appeared on the Group C cars fb page of the car Gerry and Tony drove, apparently it's the Almeras Brothers 962 - EAF001.

I don't suppose this tid bit is worth a reposting of Gregors 962 pics ?

I don't know about elsewhere, but since we started allowing £10 Poms in I'd say it spread rapidly.

If I could repost them I would :(
I'd not known any history of the 962 and from what I have just looked at, the car was not the Almeras Brothers normal car, their chassis was 110.
Anyway, back to Mallory Park, disappointingly, it's one of the few circuits I've still not raced at myself - one day!! Also, I'm sure a lot of people have seen the video, but seeing Dad go through Devil's Elbow at Mallory, it's flat, in the right car or you're incredibly brave, there were certainly some bumps going through it in the '70s

Yes it appears to be a Thompson chassis :- https://www.racingsp...962-EAF__1.html
