Michael Turner's annual, sometimes bi-annual, Exhibition is scheduled for 22nd-24th April at Halton House, near Wendover, Aylesbury.

Are there any others TNFers planning to go along?

I had hoped to be there on the Friday, but work commitments look like preventing that now.

Any takers for the Saturday or Sunday?

The venue itself - rarely open to the public - looks worth a visit in itself and those of us who've seen both Michael's and Graham's work close up will know it's worth a look in.

Might pop along on Saturday as I'll be in the approximate area, but it all depends on 'er indoors, as it's her choice of what we do that day. The things I have to do in the cause of marital harmony...........probably end up traipsing round shoe shops all day.

I was favoured with an invitation to the opening on Thursday, when JYS paid appropriate tribute to the two greatest living motor sport artists, having loaned a Michael Turner work of him winning the 1973 Monaco GP - he pointed out that the artist had included himself, wielding a camera, in the background, and said he had never received his discount for this act of vanity!
The star work was, undoubtedly, Michael's painting of the 1955 Mille Miglia, featured in the Motor Sport supplement, which sold at the opening for £3.250, a price which didn't seem unreasonable for the detail included, and skill in evoking the scene on the Raticosa Pass. Hope any other TNFers who attended enjoyed it.

I didn't know the Turners did this. I'll certainly go and have a look.

I wish I could have done it 25 years ago when I needed inspiration!

As an earlier poster has mentioned, the house itself will be worth a look, being one of the many ex-Rothschild houses in the area, although I think the RAF may have made a few modifications over the years. Also, just nearby, is the former Aston Clinton hill climb course.

I had the pleasure of attending the Preview last night which was opened by Mark Webber.



The Exhibition is an interesting mix of Motorsport and Aircraft, a celebration of 60 years of the F1 World Championship and 70 years since the Battle of Britain. Graham Turner is also big in the Jousting world and displays many of his Medieval pictures.

Webber brought his own Turner painting of his first GP win at the Nurburgring and gave an insight to how the scene and content was decided - on the back of a fag packet ! As Mark is only the 3rd Australian GP winner, views of Jack Brabham and Alan Jones were added along with National Emblem of Australia.

Seeing Michael's work back in the late 60's gave me the inspiration to try it myself. I thought I may enjoy it, but the show exceeded all expectations. Altogether an excellent evening and well worth the drive from Cheshire and back.

PS. Hat's off to Mark Webber, who having been at the opening of the revised Silverstone earlier in the day, arrived early and stayed to the end, happily chatting to anyone. I suppose it helps that he only lived a few miles away in Aston Clinton.

Went this afternoon the exhibition and thoroughly enjoyed it. Each piece was fascinating to look at, and I kinda wished I had a few grand burning in my back pocket to have come away with a few original pieces!

If anyone's in the area, I thoroughly recommend popping along.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of Studio88 by Michael and Helen Turner, and Michael and son Graham are holding another of their eagerly anticipated (in this household, at least!) exhibitions next week at their regular venue of Halton House, near Aylesbury, Bucks.

 

Admission is free and opening dates and times are Friday 4th - Sunday 6th from 10am to 6pm It will be well worth a visit if any of you are in the vicinity as it is three years since the last exhibition as they have been building towards this special anniversary.
