1st picture is as it was in 1967

The 2nd is as it is now (or at least about 5 years ago).

Unfortunatly the car isn't very pristine externally.

The car was rolled by the current owner in Keilder forest on a rally in the 1970's, and he doesn't want to change the shell as it is so original, he has said he wants to restore it but it is worse than it looks in the picture, he had already jacked the roof out in comparison to what it was the 1st time I saw it in the early 90's.

I'd recomend the Book Pils mentions,
Anatomy of the works Mini's by Brian Moylan, Brian was one of the original mechanics at Abingdon in the 60's.
Others are Works Mini's by Peter Browning & Monte Carlo: The Mini Legend (from BMIHT). The latter is a picture album.
The 67 cars were what most people would class as a standard works Mini dash.
Here is the one my Abingdon built car should have.
I didn't know you were interested in Minis Toine?

Moylens book, tho the writing is average, just tells it likes it was....brilliant

Can you tell us a little about you car Mark?
for instance...did some sort of Halda device go into the centre of the dash?? and was the high mounted, squarish, floor switch for the Nav to operate the driving lights? love the thick gearshift..."go on!! rattle now ya Bar Steward!"
(me interested in Minis also

Yes I'm a big Mini fan since I drove one in 95

A friend of mine had a replica as discussed in this thread too but he totalled it on a RAC stage's road he use to take to come back home in Belgium. It was something like: the cliff or the telephone phone pole.
Got the bottow jaw seriously broken!
He's one of Willy Mairesse's sons

Some might be familiar with Brussels and the park "Bois de la Cambre" roads, he told me he had fun drifting is Mini Cooper on the snow one winter with struts wheels... I think a Police car hopelessly tried to catch him.
Another friend in Monaco had a Mini with a De Tomaso engine and Dell'Orto carbs, he has nice stories about mountain driving too.
I love Minis!

My car is an Ex-Geoff Mabbs privately owned car which was prepared for him at Abington (the 2nd owner of the car after Mabbs has tried to buy it off me and has given me loads of info, like the fact it had that dash). The car was used in some local rallies but also on the 1962 RAC where it finished 63rd O/A after loads of problems. It then went on to finish 18th O/A on the 1963 Monte, and after a chat with the navigator on that event (Mike Wood) I found out the engine went pop on the way home.
As for the dash.
The hole is just that, a hole for storing thing presumably.
There was no Halda, the speedo was on the navigators side and had a trip meter installed as opposed to the standard speedo which was total miles only.
The floor switch on the navigators side is the horn switch, it's actually a circular switch mounted on a block of wood. Hi-tech or what.

That last picture does not look like a works car interior - see the earlier pictures. Brian's book unfortunately does not have all the photos captioned by year but includes several interiors (its published by Veloce Publishing, who I think can now print copies of a lot of their books to order).
As I said when I posted it, it doesn't look like what you would expect but that is 100% a works dash, the picture is VERY rare, one of only 2 I have ever seen of the dashes on the 1963 Monte Carlo cars. A year later they became more recognisable for the '64 Monte cars 33EJB etc, in the 1962 Monte it was just a few brackets with switches and Rev counter, the speedo with a trip meter was still mounted in the centre where the std speedo goes.
I have the same fustration with Brians Book, loads of nice pictures but you have no idea (unless you know) what year they are from.
