Does anyone know if this article exists online? Apparently Stewart also identified a problem with the car..and afterwards the cars performance improved dramatically. Peter Warr said the problem was already known, that Stewart just confirmed what the y already suspected, does anyone know what the problem was? Chassis flex??

Stewart did several laps around the Snetterton and he disliked the car. The most part of a test he must drove a 100T without his gloves -- otherwise he couldn't steer the car as he wanted: because of wrong disposition of steering wheel his gloves jammed between it and a microphone's socket that led to dangerous spin during one of the first lap of this test.

About 10y before this JYS participated in another publicity test of current then current F-1 cars; Lotus, Brabham and a few others; Lauda notibly refused to allow JYS to drive "his" car. No times were released, however based upon what he saw, Colin Chapman reportedly offered him a contract on the spot if he would consider un-retireing.
And we all know about JYS upstaging his Stewart F-1 driver in a Rally Car....
A champion is a champion, is a champion, is a champion......
Best,
Ross

You beat me to it! I was going to remark that it was a good job he didn't give the Lotus the same treatment the Silk Cut Jag received!

Totally OT: Does anybody remember the exchange between James Hunt and JYS during a Las Vegas GP commentary. It ended with JYS saying pointedly "A_c_t_u_a_ll_y, James, when I drove a Tyrrell, last month , you could see the rear wheels in the mirrors.
Background - JYS had referred to a driver checking his reatr tyres in the mirrors. james had chipped in to the effect that JYS was out of touch and 'in a modern GP car' you couldn't see the wheels in the mirrors. About five minutes later, in the next lull, JYS spoke.
Reply from James: " stunned, embarrassed silence "

Here's a photo from the occasion. I believe Stewart's writing appeared in several different magazines. I saw the story in the German magazine Rallye & Racing .

There is mention of it in the 1988 Grand prix Season ( Roebuck ) book I have, and Lotus talk about Jackie "identifying" a problem.
