I'm confused!

Three weeks ago I ordered five books through their website (http://www.millhousebooks.com), got a prompt "Order Receipt" message by mail and began anticipitating.

A few days later I received a "Returned Mail" message with the recipient being sales@millhousebooks.com - I never send them a mail, I just got the order receipt from that address! Whatever, my curiousity aroused I checked with my account at their website and was startled to learn that I "hadn't placed any orders with the store yet"!

So I mailed the support of the website, explaining my findings and inquiring the whereabouts of my order. No answer!

I found another e-mail address on an old catalogue, and send the whole story to that address. No answer still! And no parcel on my doormat... :(

Are they still in business??? I haven't received any catalogues recently, but assumed it was because I hadn't ordered for some time.

Still very much around, Michael. They had their usual large stall at Goodwood and relieved me of just under £100 on Friday.

I still get their mailshots, although I haven't used their mail order for a couple of years.

If you'd like me to phone them for you, email me the details and I'll call them tomorrow. :)

I have bought books from Mike and his family for over 25 years and always received splendid sevice and most attractive sale price book bargins. I had a new catalogue just recently - and you have just reminded me to get an order in .

I have always ordered by 'phone and got the books by return of post. They are my favourite Motor Book seller. Highly recommended.

Fines

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, order receipt message came back OK then a couple of days later that "returned mail" message. I emailed the sales@millhousebooks address and they came back to say that their website was experiencing technical problems but that the order had been received and processed OK, by that time it had already arrived in the post.

How dearly I wish Mike Kettlewell would share his immense racing knowledge and experience here on TNF...

Mike isn't involved with Mill House Books any more. I think his daughter now runs it.

IIRC, Mike had some health problems some years ago - sorry, can't recall the details. His records were sold off a long time ago.

Mill House are selling a lot on Ebay at the moment. I got a still-shrinkwrapped copy of "Driving Ambition" for fifteen quid a few weeks ago.

Can't quite see them shifting the 40-quid copy of "The Last French Bugatti" though - I saw it for £6.99 in a remainder shop in the Eldon Square centre in Newcastle last week.

That's right. One of their mail shots imparted this news a while ago - Mike has retired now (got a feeling it was to Blackpool so it won't be a very peaceful retirement!). I've always found them very helpful and prompt, but I deal with them on the phone and can't vouch for the web-based service.

Mike began to suffer from impared vision quite some time ago - probably 20 years back, if not more - which effectively denied him the ability to continue as a journo.

He used to be Autosport's F5000 chap, so he was an early icon for me!

This is sad news indeed.

I had always hoped that he would one day sit down to write the definitive book on F5000... :(

I'm sure Michael won't mind me reporting that his order is on its way to him. It had been delayed because one of the five titles was out of stock, but once that arrived they were all sent together.
