I ran across this photo described as a Volpi chassis with a Cadillac V16 and it piqued my curiosity. It looks too early to be associated with Count Giovanni Volpi of Scuderia SSS fame, was his father involved with racing cars?
The front suspension looks very Alfa-ish- maybe 6C2300?

No, it's the Agentine version
Fangio's famous Chevrolet Special was also built by Volpi

David-
Are you referring to Fangio's '40 Chevy coupe or the single seater or both?
I do remember reading about a contemporary of Fangio's racing a Cad V16 special in the '40s- do you suppose this is the car?
The photo appears to relatively current. Does anyone know where it was taken? Or who owns this car?

Sorry, Anton, loose terminology perhaps - but I would not normally refer to a production car, modified or not, as a special. My post was talking about Fangio's single-seater
I would guess the car in your picture is the V16 Cadillac Special raced with great success by Eleuterio Donzini just before the war and Clemar Bucci just after it

Thanks, David-
Bucci is the name I was looking for. I had not heard of Eleuterio Donzini before- what a wonderful name. Right up there with Tranquillo Bulgarini, a Ferrarii mechanic I met here in LA some years ago.

If you want to go back over thirty years, Anton, you can stand by the fence in BP Bend at Oran Park with Bob Levett and Peter Windsor (yes, that Peter Windsor...) repeating endlessly with them, "Ignazio Giunti, Ignazio Giunti..."
