There was Hutchison's involvement with a chemical company in Dallas, so 'chemist' has become his nickname.

As for the car it's one of the most mysterious car ever raced in F1 race. All I've managed to find about it is the following: Gus Hutchinson was driving the American ASD (Aero Structure Developments), moulded from unusual materials, and featuring a wing-mounted radiator and rising rate front suspension.

Does anyone know more about it or about Aero Structure Developments??

Car - Sportscar
Driver - non European
Where - Europe
Colours - black and silver
Helmet - White red and blue (or silver)
Sponsor - no one
Number - 2

extra clue: "the cost of our windscreen-wiper is higher than the engine"

Helmet: white
Sponsor: Champion (little sticker)
Number: 18

I should have asked for the chassis number, what was unusual about that, and all the colour schemes the car had worn!

Actually since I got two right, can I post another?

car: single-seater
driver: not European
where: Europe
colours: green/white
helmet:black?/white
number: 10
sponsor: none

It's my turn, isn't it? If so here is one question to think about:

Car - Single seater
Driver - American
Where - North America
Colour - Grey
Helmet - Yellow/Black
Sponsor - no one
Number - 123

Extra clue: the driver had notable connection with Maserati 250F history
Extra extra clue: F1 car, but not F1 race

It seems that you are asking about the guy who drove Lotus 33 and was nicknamed "swimming kangaroo"

...but it also can be Phil Hill in Cooper T73 for example at Silverstone '64...

I seem to remember I've read about one S.Francisco Examiner GP at Laguna Seca 1961 (or 1962?) or something similar... winner Stirling Moss.
But, race number 123???
The Ferrari winner of the Carrera Panamericana had race number (or was it simply the sponsor?) 123.
A North-American driver who had notable connection with Maserati 250F history... Pabst? Thompson?

AAA-Eagle, you were right with my last question.........too easy yet again. The only way I can leave you in doubt is in which of those it was, or indeed whether it was another Cooper with #10!

But yours...............grey? You're sure you're not looking at a b/w photo?

:p

Maybe a trick question............'single-seater' could be the Penske Zerex Cooper which only had a central seat, but beyond that..........

Laguna Seca '61 is right, it was a FJ race.

No. This driver was the last to do it ... and thus he had a 'notable connection'. Don't you remember this colours of his helmet?

Ah.........Bob Drake - drove a 250F in the last 2.5litre GP, and the type had also been in the first one.

Never knew his helmet colour, though...

I've seen somewhere a picture of a Cooper Monaco driven by Bob Drake in 1961, but colour was yellow not grey.

Very un "PC" and I like it

It must be that chap who never spoke ill of Mansell or Senna and would love the chance to drive in Grand Prix Masters, the man who always loved the unfare advantage

Yes, Alan Jones's Favourite prey.....Nelson Piquet :) :)

No idea on the rest of the answer

Have forgotten this nice old thread... :)

Bill Becketts

YES: Nelson Piquet
He was at his "new debut", several months after the huge Indianapolis crash that destroyed his legs. He drove a red Ralt Formula 3 owned by one Muffato (a Brazilian driver, I presume) at a home track (don't remember if Brasilia or Jacarepagua).
