Hello all readers !

I'm PHINORMAN, the french who is writing a book about Mike BEUTTLER.

During his career, he has driven for PAULENCO RACING (March 74S - 1974) and a RAWSLON (1975). He would can drive for ALROY RACING (March 75S - 1975).

Do you have pics about these cars and details about these teams and cars ?

A bonus question > do it exist books or articles about THE CHEQUERED FLAG team history ?

Many thanks and best regards fron France.

Just spotted this after reading Mr Lawrence's post on the other Beuttler thread.
(I'd forgotten about Chris Skeaping and the "News of the World" story and his appearance as co-driver with Beuttler for Paulenco.)

Twinny - should the two be merged, or is the Skeaping link either a) too unsavoury or b) merely coincidental?

For what it's worth, my initial post on Beuttler was based around my curiousity as to why so little was written about somebody who had raced successfully in F3 and F2 and had become a regular F1 driver - ultimately in the yellow March 721G and then the March 731 - that were so photogenic that nobody ever seemed to print or even take photographs of them...

Philippe,

Mike Beuttler wrote a series of lengthy features (24 pages in total), "Under the Chequered Flag", for Autosport covering the first four years of the Chequered Flag team (1958-61).

The relevant Autosport issues are:
27 February 1959
1 April 1960, 8 April 1960, 29 April 1960
27 January 1961, 3 February 1961
12 January 1962, 19 January 1962.

I’m sure simonlewisbooks will be able to provide you with the appropriate issues.

My ten pennorth on the Skeaping issue (and anything similarly related).

This was mentioned some time ago on here (in the absence of "search" I can't tell you where), and another racing personality with alleged similar inclinations was also mentioned. I took the discussion over to PM, because - after all - it was just allegations, and also because I don't trust the News of the Screws too much. Also, it's a rather unpleasant topic to discuss, even though I think we are mature enough to do so in a sensible manner. Personally, I'm no prude and I don't care what consenting adults do in private, in relation to sexual preferences or anything else - whatever floats your boat, etc. But when you bring possibly non-consenting juveniles and children into the equation, I get a bit angry.

Hi !

Anyone can it confirm me...

1 > Paulenco Racing was a Brian Kreisky ownership ?

2 > Paulenco and Alroy's Marches and Ivor Goddwin Rawlson had Firestone tyres ?

3 > wheelbase (mm) front and rear tracks (mm) and weight (kg) of March 74 S and March 75 S ?

Thanks in advance !

Presumably you've seen this:

New March 2-litre team - Autosport 27 Feb 1975
"Alroy Racing will be a new name on the 2-litre sports car scene this year. The team has been formed by former Paulenco men Alan Stubbs and Roy Johnson. They will be continuing their association with March and will be running two new 75S models."

It would seem likely that the Paulenco 74Ss were updated at the factory to become the Alroy 75Ss.

Paulenco Racing was headed by Paul Lennon. It was not owned by Brian Kreisky although he was involved with the team.Alan Stubbs, Roy Johnson and John Sabourin ran the team. They used an ex March transporter and a small Moror home bought I think from Roger Williamson.
In 1974 they bought two March 74S cars on finance. The first race planned was Spa but niether car started.
The car I was going to drive had a clutch bobbin left out! The next race was the Interseries at Silverstone. Then the team went to Jarama where Emilio Zapico who had Garvey sherry money had a BDG installed. I think I finished third. Clermont Ferrand and Austria followed. The cars went to Angola where they has LIS sponsorship and were painted gold. They returned for Brands 1000kms and I think that is me in the car with my new Griffin helmet. Merzario hit me early on and the car went out. Meanwhile Paul Lennon was going broke and lost everything. The cars went to Jarama for the 2 litre round. I drove one and Mario Cabral the other. There was talk of Mike Beuttler doing the race but I had a contract which was honoured.
After that the cars and truck were hidden in Germany as poeple in UK went for Lennon's assets.
They were rebodies as 75S by Allan and Roy in 1975 and they ran as Alroy Racing

Hi Jonles,

Many, many thanks to you for these interesting informations about Paulenco Racing. I suppose you're John Sheldon ; I saw you racing in Dijon and Spa 1000 kilometers with Alan Jones at the wheel of a T294 Lola entried by Stuart Chubbs. I can send you pics of your car from my own collection (with your private e-mail adress).

Do you have testimonies about Mike Beuttler as driver and as human being (to be used for my book about him) ?

Thanks in advance with my best regards.

Thanks jonles, a great slice of history and a couple of 75S mysteries solved.

The Lola T294 that you have fotos of at Dijon Spa 1000 km etc
Could i have some of these as I am working with Stewart on a bussiness deal and he said he has no photos of his old race cars ( lost in various house moves over the years ) i found 2 photos on the web for him to give him some nostalgia!

I would also be interested in any Group 6 race car phots that you may have taken over the years especially 1972-76 races I will try to PM you with my details

Going back a bit here................Group 7's pic of 7th Oct 07 shows Chris Skeaping. I'm presently researching Chris's racing activities and am trying to establish contact with him. Does anyone know if he's still around?
