The Atlantic is one of my favorite cars of all time, and seeing one up close last weekend was a pleasure. But it also got me thinkin'. I have the old Brumm 1/43 model of the Atlantic on my bookshelf. That one's dark French racing blue with exposed wire wheels instead of discs, but it carries the number "49" on the doors, hood, and back. I seem to remember reading about this particular model in one of the magazines (C&SC most likely) saying that in fact an Atlantic had raced at one point, but I can't find any reference to it on the net, nor do I have any books handy on Bugattis. Anyone else know?

I don't know of any Atlantics racing in any major event; maybe a minor event or rallye...

That's a different car, not a T 57 Atlantique but a rebodied T 51. I do remember seeing the one you have the picture of before it was restored and it was definitely in a light shade of blue though, as opposed to the more metallic paint it wears now.

The 1936 Type 57S and 1938 T57SC Bugatti Atlantic were designed by Jean Bugatti. For racing the T57C chassis was fitted with a lighter sports body as seen for example at Le Mans.

At Le Mans 1939 yes, in 1937 it was a specific châssis, the 57G.
