Alonso is accused to be a employee and Kimi an "iceman" that never makes mistakes.

Today and otehr times Alonso and Renault showed their muscles and kimi went under pressure.
Third error of the season for the finn (wrong brake in nurburgring and error in monza), only one for the spaniard in Canada.

It's 12-13 years that a driver don't win with the car that isn't the best on the grid.

I really think that the real iceman is Alonso.

He's called the Iceman because he's Finish basically and it's cold there and they're cold people who display no emotion. He has never really proved he is particularly great under pressure yet. Hakkinen was also called the Iceman, basically cos he displayed little emotion as well, even though he cried once. Neither were 'Icemen' IMO, not that they aren't great drivers, it's just a stupid nickname like calling Sato Kamikaze or something cos of where he's from.

I thoght Raikonenn was cold " iceman " for his attachment to " whiskey on the rocks " :

This seems to be the only "ice" that matches him.

No no no, I agree with the fact that Iceman has its origin in Kimi's nationality and stereotypes, but not in reality. By the way, I'd love to visit Finland, I am sure Finnish are keen to prove Chirac wrong concerning food

pure nonsense, he makes mistakes, as everybody does. More or les than the opposition I don't know, but the difference does not justify the nickname, that's for sure.

By the way, congrats for most of your posts

Is "iceman" because come from north and legs are cold in bed.;)

I think the nickname "iceman" has more to do with him being a Finn than anything else.

Thanks.

But really, my post was a meant as a joke (look at that sentence!), though at the same time it's serious. Kimi Räikkönen is unfazed by pressure, he doesn't make many mistakes at all. This will be rejected by those who see it fit; but I don't think he locked up because he felt pressure today. It was just a mistake. And bad timing.

I don't know how anybody, including Alonso, can claim with a straight face that he will win aith a car that is not the best in the grid. Which car was the best in the grid this year. The Mc Laren that broke down every other race? This is ridiculous. And the worst is that we will hear for years to come how Alonso won without having the best car.

By the way, did anyone noticed his facial expression while speaking in press conferences? he barely moves any muscle in his face, stone-like expression.

Emotionally he is very cool, but being cool doesnt always mean less errors. He is also far far less worried about things that could go wrong and drives more limit because of that.

He got the Iceman nick because he was very young person in F1 who acted like he didnt have any nerves. He was unique.

Kimi's origin -> Finland -> it's cold there -> Iceman

Certainly not for not making mistakes, specially under pressure the "Iceman" tends to melt as we saw at Monza and now in Interlagos.

Alonso would be more Iceman than Kimi if it was meant for constitancy and keeping coolness under pressure...

yeah, I got double sense of your post. Although English is not my mother tongue as somebody might have expected by now, I am pretty much used to the language.

Bad timing and one more rival for Kimi, Montoya will race for the win tomorrow, he will not let Kimi go through now.

He was unique and still is unique, specially off the track. I cannot remember any driver with so many "incidents" recently. :)

Hm. That leads me to the question whether he's called "iceman" because he always takes his drinks with double the ice?

Kimi is quite the hot-head, really. It doesn't translate in the PC's but I suspect his got a fiery temper.

I think jokuvaan has (partially)hit the nail on the head. Just watch Kimi drive, always on the edge but still keeps it amazingly clean. He is also suppose to have an uncanny ability to shrug things off and clear his head after an incident.

I wasn't referring to just you, but I think you know very well that a majority of this forum don't like Ferrari and/or Michael that's why when I saw what you said I find it funny that someone would say that around here. :drunk:

If you look carefully, I suspect you might see me arguing on your side on those threads.

I think that when a driver gets universally accepted to be one of the best, that is when the bashers appear. So in the end, it's a compliment. ;)

edit: this no doubt explains the "majority" you speak about with regards Michael and his 7WDC's. :p

The nickname "Iceman" when associated with athletes refers to keeping their cool under pressure.

Kimi has demonstrated over his career with few exceptions that he can maintain his cool and deliver good results when faced with pressure situations on the track.

Off the track, well that's another story.;)

He is called iceman cause he can take set backs and drive without them affecting his race. I thought that was common knowlegde. Ron has mentioned it many times.

Don't take my comments in this thread too seriously. If there's anything I admire in Kimi is that he's no drama queen about broken cars or mistakes. Contrast that to Massa, who always finds something not quite working as he'd liked in qualifying and races and I know who I'd put my money on if they were in a championship deciding race situation.

As far as I know, that nickname came from his first win at Malaysia, where he said he didn't feel anything special. Since then people call him Iceman. And to be honest, it's just a nickname, like magic Senna or whatever, who cares about that?

No.

It came during his first season for Mclaren.

OT: Kimi was said to be fully a sleep in his motorhome, minutes before his first ever race in F1 for Sauber.

Pressure of what?

I'm not so sure if Monza race or Brazil Q really were that much of a nerve wreckers for Kimi. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes.

He's been on a mission impossible (car reliability) for the whole year. I would think that the real pressure comes, when the championship points gap is under 10 points and there are only few races left and he's been there.

I have never thought of Mika like non emotianal, I just watched The Team - A season with McLaren from 1993, he was clearly under a lot of pressure and I think it was coming from him at his 1st race with McLaren and he seemed perfectly human. I havent watch Rosberg, but I have watched a lot of finns in WRC and so far I have liked in both WRC and F1 just 3 finns - Mika, because he was cool(not in temperature of course and he fought well with Jean in 92), Salo because he was a bit crazy and quite outspoken + Marcus, he's totally mad at times - all of them are not ordinary finnish drivers:) It was odd why Kimi has Iceman on his helmet though.

Yep. He has nothing to lose. Same applies to Monza. He can take whatever risks he wants to pole & win every race since his chances for WDC are million to one.

When it comes to high pressure races, I´d choose Indianapolis 2003. Crucial race for WDC, 3-way battle between KR, JPM and MS. His performance was great.
