Something that I thought would be quite easy to find in this world of web is a list of all the winners of the Grovewood Award, but I can't seem to find anything.

As well as the actual winners (and runners-up if possible), I would also be greatly interested in a recap of which drivers were eligible (by nationality / racing category etc), who the judges were, any obvious bloopers that they made during the years (ignoring the benefit of hindsight of course!), and any interesting stories anyone may have on the topic!

My apologies if a similar topic already exists, but if it does then I plead not guilty due to diminished responsibility (or a search function that doesn't work properly, at least).

An interesting collection. I see four world champions (but none took the top spot), several GP drivers and several who have featured in the forum on "Whatever happened to . . ." threads.

Was 1980 the last year of the awards?

No,but source these details came from 'Pace Motor Racing Directory' was published in 1981! Last ediiton AFAIK. Awards became the Autosport Awards when Grovewood departed from the sport.
Why is no one else interested in this? Much more obscure subjects like east european races have pages of posts. Need someone who still has their early 80s Autosports to complete the list.

If I remember well Grovewood Awards became Cellnet Awards in the mid-80s, have Autosports from 1984 to 2003, I'll try to have a look asap......

Many thanks, Rob and KJJ, for such comprehensive details

I assume then that nobody is eligible for the award on more than one occasion?

I didn't realise Chris Lambert was considered that promising, yet another sad loss of a driver before they could reach their full potential.

Correct, though you could get a 'special commendation' then a top 3 award in a later year. To answer another of your original questions it appears only british & commonwealth drivers were eligable.
Also the Autosport awards started in 1982 so did not replace the Celnet as such .

And after 1987 was the Grovewood Award stopped?

What a list of very very very promising drivers... :)

I have just a doubt about Roger Mac, who won first prize in 1964, for me pretty unknown.
I remember I've read in some old Autosport magazines he was about 19 in 1964 and obtained the award after a good Jaguar E-type season. He continued to race in a Brabham F.3 in 1965 but two accidents both of them serious, prompted him to give up motor racing.
Does someone know the full story about this interesting guy?

Thread resurrection. I have a collection of autographs from the awards which were given to me by John Webbs secretary Brenda Parfitt. There's 63 in total on the back of cut in half blank Postcards with the drivers name types above the signature. Having had a look at the above they run from 1963 to 1983 with about 4-5 missing. I can't recall why they obtained but using the signature for the press rings a bell?
