Hello,

can anybody help me to find reference photos for
my Brabham Ford Indy model in scale 1/16th?
All other information about this car are welcome too.
I assume the car runs 1966 in Indy with Mario Andretti on
the wheel.
Thanks

That's a sweet model you got there. I'd heard Bandai made a few Indy car models but had only seen the 1/12 turbine. Are there any others?

Actually,

A Google search for "Brawner Hawk" (Andretti's first five Indianapolis 500 runs were made in Hawks built by his then chief mechanic, Clint Brawner out of Phoenix, AZ. Brawner built these as authorized copies of Jack Brabham's 1964 Indianapolis entries For an "old school" crew chief such as Brawner, these were fairly easily built, being of tube-frame construction

But, the common name for the Brawner Brabham copies is "Hawk" so some searching will surely show up several pics of these cars.

Hello biercemountain,

it is correct, some years ago Bandai sells the STP Turbine in scale 1/12th
as well as the Lotus 38 and the Brabham Ford (Brawner Hawk) in scale 1/16th.
I know Bandai produces a Indy Lola to, but it is very difficult to find a kit.
If anybody want to see the models so click:

I have this Bandai 1/16 1966 Jackie Stewart #43 Lola Ford kit in unbuild condition, but the box is to large to put on my scanner.
These kits where made with a battery box and most have a small Mabuci engine to install inside the real engine.
In my kit the Mabuci is missing, but that is no big deal, as nobody wants the motorize them today!
It is a real pity that Bandai never rereleased the 1/16 Jim Clarks STP Lotus, Andretti's Brabham Dean Van Lines, Stewart's Lola Ford and the 1/12 Parnelli Jones STP turbine again,
as I am sure a lot of builders would like to have them today.

I was at a Plastic Model show where a Bandai 1/12 Turbine kit was sold for about $200(US). The box was open and some assembly had been started but that just goes to show you how prized these old Bandai kits are. I'm guessing the fact that they've never been reissued makes them extremely rare.

If Bandai ever does reissue them, I'd be one of the first in line to grab one (whatever the price).

Something to consider when searching out reference pics for a scale model of the '66 Brawner Hawk is that Mario Andretti's 1966 Indy ride was actually the same car he drove in 1965, with revised rear bodywork (the taller tail, with ducktail spoiler. Other than the bodywork the car remained essentially the same, mostly due to Al Dean, car owner and sponsor (Al Dean founded, owned, and operated Dean Van Lines, a household furniture mover nationwide in the US until his passing in late 1967). Dean was of the mold of the 1950's and earlier race car owner in the US, in that he ran his race team rather penuriously--given that racing in the US had yet to experience the mega-dollars in sponsorship from Firestone and Goodyear and others in 1966--that was yet another year or so in the future.
