I have a Hewland gearbox that came with a formula B basket case. It is a MK type gearbox with "H5-216" stamped on the nameplate on the end of the box (end cover) and stamped on the bearing carrier. It has a VW maincase Does the "H5" indicate it is a MK 5 gearbox?

Thanks :)

Spot on, I'd say... a Mk 5, which was the 'heavy duty' version of the VW cased boxes...

I'd think it unlikely that a Formula B car would have anything less.

Stronger gears for those are made (or is that used to be?) by Holinger in Melbourne.
