According to this article at TSN it was...

http://tsn.ca/auto_r...y.asp?id=148752

The race, held at Montreal's Gilles Villeneuve Circuit, was watched by 53-million viewers worldwide, making it the third most watched sporting event in the world behind only the Super Bowl and UEFA Champions League Final.

How do these numbers compare with other reports?

03 it was Brazil, 56mil

Again third behind Superbowl and Champs League

1. Stupor Bowl
2. Champs League Final
3. Formula 1 Round 3
4. Mens Athletics 100m Final
5. Rugby WC Final
6. Cricket WC Final
7. Tour de France Final Stage
8. Wimbledon Mens Singles Final
9. NBA Finals, Game 6

Its interesting that Formula 1 has the highest non-champ deciding race. One could argue thats the size or F1, or the fact that every race in F1 counts towards the championship as equal as any others, whereas in most sports the final is the one where you actually win the title. Still, fairly interesting. Also the TV numbers dropped off very sharply after Brazil. Mens Athetlics was 28mil viewers, down to NBA finals with 12.

COME ON F1.

At least part of it is that Brazil (and indeed Canada) occur in prime time for the european fanbase of F1, and at a decent time for the Americas.

So a larger number of people watch it compared to say, Australia, that's in a pretty crap time zone for almost everyone who isn't Australian.

and as much as i hate to say it......since it is prime time on a sunday night and usually bumps coronation street to a later time, the viewers tuning in for corrie at its normal time usually leave it on thus counting towards the ratings

Yeah, but thats only the UK ;)

Though I agree with your point. Evening GP's are usually twice the daytime viewership in Britain. Its probably amongst the 'easiest' GP's to watch for the non-hardcore fan. If you're home on a Saturday night and you've just finished dinner well there's race cars for you.

I reckon those evening F1 viewing figures are bolstered by all the grannies waiting for Coronation Street.

Canada was a very eventful gp

Radio/Alonso/renault drama, when fisi wasi ahead of him before he blew up

MS hounding Button, button crashed
Alonso crashes

Kimi and MS towards the end, and I think I've missed other things, but I enjoyed that gp very much at the pub, it was on at the evening here, I understand why it was a rattings winner, things were happening in it!
