Bonhams achieved a milestone result for a Mini at the Race Retro Collectors' Car sale in Stoneleigh on Saturday 24 March 2007. 'DJB 93B', the ex-works 1964 Mini Cooper 1,275S Rally Saloon, winner of the 1965 RAC Rally (the only Mini ever to do so) and the 1966 Scottish Rally, sold for £100,500, drawing a round of applause in the saleroom. It is believed to be a world record price for a Mini.
This historically important rally car was offered in stunning condition, having undergone a complete restoration that was faithful to the original specification in every single detail. The vendor, who had never entered a car for auction before, was absolutely thrilled and said that the price achieved was far higher than he had even dreamt of. The Mini sold to a UK private collector.

Crikey, According to Peter Browning's updated version of 'the Works Minis', that is a very expensive private plate!
Given the write up the car recieved there, I'm not surprised the vendor was surprised / delighted!
So, in light of this, what is an 'orignal' ex works Mini worth (original shell, tracable history - I know there are few of them still out there)?
And Doug, what shell is lurking in the garden.......
