I was watching reruns of the Goodwood Festival of Speed on SpeedTV on the weekend and to my surprise Adrian Newey was racing a 1965 Ford GT40 around the track.

I didn't know that he actually drove race cars, even in this form of racing. I was very impressed watching him battle hard for 3rd place. Unfortunately, his car developed problems which forced him into the pits.

Is this just a one off, or does he do this periodically? Anybody know?

P/S

If this subject has already been brought up in a previous thread, I apologize in advance, however, I couldn't find any information in the archive on this BB about it.

That pass he made on the orange McLaren was cooool! Too bad he had to bring the car in afterwards.

p.s. seeing a driver named Bill Murray driving a Shelby Cobra had me doing a double-take and hitting up Google.

I think the SpeedTV people mentioned him being the occasional weekend racer when he's not at a GP.

That was an excellent pass he made!

Regarding "Bill Murray", I thought the same as you when I heard the name.

That was also startling for me to hear the name Bill Murray

I have heard that Newey on times that he races when he's not around the Mac-Merc shop, and it was great to see him race there.

Bobby Rahal also raced at Goodwood as well.

I've watched Adrian Newey race at Silverstone, Goodwood and in the Le Mans Classic. He's actually no slouch behind the wheel either.

The races at the Goodwood Festival of Speed are SO exciting to watch. I enjoy watching these races every year.

[Pedant] No racing at the FOS, the Revival meeting is the one that uses the circuit. [/Pedant].

That's Newey's own GT40, lucky fella, and he manages a good few races a year in it.

He's a hobbyist racer. In the past I've seen stories on Adrian with his homemade hill-climb racer. The type of car you'd see on the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, all big wings. I think the last time I saw something was in Racecar Engineering or Racetech.
