Looking through the drivers section of a Bathurst 1000 year book, I'm seeing that Australian rally and race driver George "Farmer" Fury was born in Hungary in 1945.
I know Australia has it's Hungarian communities, stemming from the failed revolution in Hungary 1956. Is there a connection to this event or when did George Fury arrive in Australia?
Best regards
Jesper

Thank you for the link, Murray - I knew that he was a rally driver before his touring car career, but that was about it. Nice with a bit more background.
From post race interviews he came across as a modest, genuinly nice person.

George is now involved in Model Plane flying.
He was certainly very under rated over here, he unfortunatly didn't run around telling everyone how good he was, as most of his compatriots did. Nissan owe guys like George far more than the Richards & Skaife's of this world

That photo'd be a little earlier than 1986... IIRC, the red terry-towelling hat was retired in favour of an Akubra by the time the works Nissan squad resurfaced with the RB30 Skylines... actually on reflection, it may not be that much earlier... he did wear both the red hat and the striped Nissan driving suit during his 1985 enduro stint with the JPS BMW team... I wonder if anyone has a photo of George and Frank together, with their respective headwear of choice...
Just love the vidoe footage of him in 1984 at Bathurst, in the Bluebird, handing out a whopping big "don't argue!" at Hell Corner, to Allan Grive and John Harvey, who - caught up in their own little dice - were completely unprepared to have the little Datty come whistling up the inside of both of them, with the tail hung well out.
I believe I may have read an anecdote from Barry Lake many years ago in the pages of Motor, of a lap with George at the Sydney Showground dirt track in one of the rally cars... can't recall quite which car it was... the lap was reasonably brisk - about 19 seconds or something...
