In f1total.com it says that PepsiCo want to buy Red Bull. If true, both Red Bull F1 Teams will be on sale, because the americans don't want to invest millions of dollars into F1.

But I don't think that Mateschitz wants to sale, he is earning enough money with his energy drink and it seems he is not typical bussiness man who will sale when he gets good offer. He doesn't need that... hopefully...

I think that the reported price of 5.6 billion $ is a bit low, given Red Bull's growth and growth potential. And I also agree that Mateschitz is not likely to sell. Besides, if PepsiCo buys Red Bull and stops the marketing, that will probably kill the brand alltogether.

But then, $5.6 billion is a lot of money, and maybe Mateschitz already has an idea on what to do with the money. Him keeping the F1 teams and being partly sponsored by PepsiCO (team USA Pepsi and Team Europe Red Bull) does not sound too far fetched, either.

I don't see it happening. DM can keep doing what he's doing, having fun and cash out for more, later. Interesting that Coke just launched another attempt at RedBull with something called Fullthrottle.

I searched a few financial sites (and via google of course) and came up with 0.0000000000000000 references to a pepsi buyout of Red Bull. Take that as you will

Maybe a few years ago. PepsiCo recently surpassed Coke in market cap, that's how well they've been doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Red Bull sold one of it's teams.

Nope, private company.
I can't find anything about a proposed takeover either, so f1total either have a scoop or a half-baked rumour.

Thread title: PepsiCo Buying Red Bull?

Post content: PepsiCo want to buy Red Bull

The above is how silly rumours start :). Jumps from a rumour that PepsiCo might be interested, to a thread title implying they are actually trying.

It would be very strange to buy RedBull and throw away their marketing considering that their product is useless but still selling at high prices (probably due to excellent marketing?)

Exactly. Red Bull is driven by marketing and it would be decreasing it's value if they would change that formula.

I don't think so. Red Bull is succesful, but PepsiCo. are more a commodity conglomerate than Red Bull. And although it is a great success that Red Bull is enjoying, it's not comparable with the likes of PepsiCo. It will always be considerably behind on sales, even though Red Bull's margins are probably much higher.

You're joking right? Red Bull is a drop in the bucket compared to Pepsi Co. Pepsi owns half of the fast food joints in the US, and there are a lot of fast food places in the US.

com'on what? Red bull are a niche product in comparison to coke and pepsi but they are well marketed and are clearly profitable. In the meantime they have probably eaten into the sales slightly of the other giants and they dont like it, so they will compete and yeh they may try to buy em' out cause they can. For me that will be a sad day as redbull can be seen as an idependant and give us an alternative and because its privately owned it can chose to do what it does and support many many sports and the individuals that that like redbull are trying to get up there by their own talent.

I actually don't think they can. The way Red Bull is growing, any uyser would have to cought up a shitload of money (more than the $5.6 billion) in order to even spark Mateschitz' interest.

Sounds like just another head to head battle between PepsiCo and Coca Cola. So far we have the Cola war Pepsi vs Coke, the sports drinks war Gatorade vs Powerade, and now if Coke estalbishing an energy drink product, Pepsi may look to take the challenge to them in that market.

So instead of developing their own product, you might as well inquire about the established product first.

Light Blue. Given that this is Red Bull's "B" team, it would be a fitting way for it to market their secondary drink.

austrian newspapers today declare that the story is a total fluke, that mateschitz does not think about selling his 49%, and that the brand alone ( not including the actual company ) is currently estimated at 7 billion $, but would not be sold for that price because of a still huge growth potential.

Well I hope for Coke's sake that they've thought it through a little better than they did Dasani.
Easy to see why they want a slice of the market, very tough to see them acheiving it. How many Red Bull clones have come along and disappeared in the last few years? There were at least two involved with F1 - Hype and EJ's V10 - and I'm sure there are loads I've forgotten about.

Well, you must remember that Didi owns 49% of the company. Other 49 % holds Hong Kong T.C. Agrotrading Company Limited which belongs to the family Yoovidhya where Chaleo Yoovidhya is "The Boss". The rest of 2% owns a man names Charlem Yoovidhya, who is a son of Chaleo.

So family Yoovidhya owns if you want so 51% of Red Bull and there are rumors that the family Yoovidhaya would like to sale... Didi can keep his 49% and with 51% owned by, let's say PepsiCo, then you can imagine what could happen with all this F1 sponsorship.

Being a private Company, I'm sure that DM would have first right on any stock sale along with other clauses and possible poison pills.

True, and it was dirt cheap at their factory during Silverstone 2004! :drunk:
