I've been sent 9 pictures by a South African driver of that era. The fun bit is that they're not captioned - so I'm going to post them here one at a time. Who and When?

The first one is easy - and identifies the source of the pictures:

It seems to be Eddie Keizan (Ford Escort) and Kyalami. But when?

Eddie Keizan Ford Perana

Obviously Eddie Keizan - you can read it clearly enough!

It is a Capri, but I don't think it is a Perana. Why? Because the number is 16B, i.e. Class B. The Peranas were Class A. Classes were based on the price of the car, incidentally.

It is Kyalami - at Clubhouse.

I have several programmes from 1971 where Keizan is listed as car 16, Class B, Ford Capri V6 3000 GT. I have some from 1970 and 1972 where he isn't in this car... so the year is almost certainly 1971.

Okay... next one:

Easy too! Keizan again followed by Bob Evans in BRM SA GP 1975

So far so good! Keizan's Lotus 72 is pretty obvious, but I was struggling with the ugly BRM.

No more cars - the rest are people. This one is 50% easy to guess given the context... but who is the other 50%?

This is the only photo I have him sitting on Nols Niemans car, front left, not very clear, but I think its him.

Yes, it must be. Strangely, although I've met John Love a couple of times I really didn't recognise him from this picture. Going through my collection of programmes I'm pretty sure you are right.

Also... I just found a picture of Alex Blignaut - which confirms that it is him! The 1970 SAGP programme has a history of Kyalami, with a 1961 photograph of Alex with Francis Tucker. Definitely the same chap.

Okay - on the next one I score 2 out of 4...

I think you're right. I only knew Driver and Charlton without resorting to Google and my small library - but I've found a couple of pictures of Geoff Mortimer and that certainly looks like him.

This one is two-thirds easy, at least...

Is it Revson? I thought so at first but then managed to talk myself out of it based on the other pictures I've seen where his hair looks much darker. But I'm willing to believe it.

Only two more to go... and this one is my favourite! Partly because I must have been just a few yards away when it was taken.

The only other thing I can recognise is a Pretoria Boys High summer school uniform on the far right (but he's taken the tie off) - because I used to wear one of those.

Jochen Mass, Mike Hailwood, Francois Migault, John Watson, Ian Scheckter, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Jody Scheckter, Eddie Keizan, Arturo Merzario, Graham Hill, Jacky Ickx and Emerson Fittipaldi.

I'll let someone else put the numbers on ;)

Ha! My mistake entirely! Too many hands-on-chins, and me not reading your remark closely enough. Sorry about that; you're quite right - he is Driver. The bloke I thought you were referring to is next to Migault and behind Wattie.

BTW I wonder why Hulme isn't wearing his 1974-spec overalls? He definitely had them by then as he was wearing them on the podium in Buenos Aires. Given how few items the drivers had back then, they could quite literally have been in the wash!

PS Russell - could you make your images a smaller file size bofore you post them, please? They're waaaaay too big at the moment, and are taking eons to load.

I can't contribute much to this, but here we see Paddy Driver and Dave Charlton (plus another chap - Olthoff, maybe?) standing behind Rory Byrne and Stuart Turner.

The chap next to Charlton and behind Turner is Graham Duxbury. He was South African FAtlantic champion and also won the Daytona 24H with Sarel van der Merwe and Tony Martin (1984, I think).

Is it? Blimey; I've only been to the SA GP once (in 1992) and I had a meeting with Graham whilst I was there... clearly, I'd never have recognised him! He had a helmet design similar to Giunti's.

Peter Macintosh was probably a CSI (or whatever they were called back then) employee at the time. Later on he fulfilled roles such as team manager (or similar) for Fittipaldi Automotive, IIRC.

For a moment I thought Peter Macintosh was my late friend that compiled the book on the South African F1 Championship stats that Paul Sheldon published. OK then, the Peter Mac on the photo is not the Peter Mac I knew.

It must be Revson rather than Oliver - that is clearly a McLaren driving suit (compare with Hulme).

I think we've got the lot now (of the Keizan collection) - well done everyone!

Rob, So what is Mr Keizan doing today?

last I heard he was still running Tiger Wheels, an aluminium wheel manufacturer, which had grown into a large multinational company and who had purchased ATS in Germany. Is that the same ATS as in the 80's?

No, not Len. Some chap with a Italian/Portuguese surname...can't recall it for the moment. He was a saloon car racer in the 50s and 60s.

Eddie Keizan still has a hand in Tiger Wheels. He also initiated the trust fund for old racing drivers, marshalls, etc that have financial problems.

Mike White use to race saloons sometime ago.
