Catalan: 'penya'.
Spanish: 'peña'.
English: 'club'.
'Rhin' come from a café-restaurant called 'El oro del Rhin' ('The Rhin's Gold'?). It was in the Plaça Catalunya (Catalonian Square), Barcelona. Many friends, like the Molins brothers, Armangué, Lluch... met regularly in this bar just to talk about what happened in sport's world. It included, of course, motor racing.
These meetings began in 1914. Two years later, after an strange discussion about motorcycles, they decided to organize a race in the Baix Penedès track (just for Penya Rhin members) and to bet. With an entry of 56 vehicles (motorcycles, side-cars...), the race was a success.
