Moser crashed the car on the Trento Bondone hill climb sometime in July 62, He sold the car to his friend Aldo Pessina who ran the car untill 1966 in FJ then F3 guise competing in local Swiss hillclimbs & slaloms. I am in contact with Aldo but, not surprisingly, he cannot remember which events he entered - other than he send the car to the Argentine Temporada series in '64 where it was driven by local drivers.
I am racing the car & it is back in its original Silvio Moser livery
Any help much appreciated.

Hi Beat - According to the F2 web site Aldo Pessina entered a few races in 1965 - most he appears to have not started. He is listed as DNQ in the Coppa AC di Bologna at Imola entered by Scuderia Sorociama with a Lotus Ford. This may be my car.
Thanks for posting the photos & your comments

First must by tats Lotus 18, now in the Panini collection, 1966 this car was always in the new Garage from Silvio. About some information founded, with this Lotus Moser raced only a small number off races before hi has crashed, may by the car with the dark body paint in one of the photos sent to you, the car were red with white stripes.
You say the Lotus 20-J-968 was sold new to Moser in April 1962, and like confirmed from Aldo Pessina (City), damaged on the Trento Bondone hill climb race sometime in July 62.
Jo Siffert was very busy in car business, special also in racecars; it’s lucks like Moser has acquired an other Lotus 20 or 22 by him. With this car Silvio Moser has raced since the end of 1963, must by the same colour like the 968. Except the two races in Charles Vögeles Brabham BT06-17, the car acquired for the season 1964 by Silvio Moser.
The tree Cars, two Lotus and one Brabham, was shipped, together with Guglielmo Bellasi’s Lotus 20, for the four races in argentine1964. For this races I have a good documentation, the problem is no wear the frame number. For this races I can only find out, together with Aldo Pessina, what’s drivers have used the two Lotus’s but not say 968 o the other.
I have to find the time to consult the cantonal (like Sussex or Kent) Archive for the old numbers of “Eco dello Sport” a Sport Newspaper. For all Swiss races, also the Automobil Revue

The next 20 was crashed at Pergusa & I'm not sure from the damage that the car was repairable. This car is definately a 20 as it has no top link on the suspension.
Either this car was repaired or a 3rd 20 bought for 1963 (I can find no record of Silvio entering/racing a Lotus after Pergusa in 1962)
The 18 seems to have arrived later - it was painted at some point white - see the photo you sent 62/63/64 - 12 (This is definately an 18)
Sorry but I don't know how to attach that photo
Interestingly I have seen an ex Siffert Lotus 20 - It has frame no 900 but has the chassis plate from an 18 - chassis 704.

Is the Lotus on the photos from Pergusa a 20, its possible a fourth car or is not Moser’s car. I have al photos after the July 1962 with the same colour then your car.
The last race with a Lotus 20 or 22 must by the Freiburg – Schauinsland Swiss hill climb race on 29.09.1963 and a Photo in the Automobil Revue the colour is clear with a stripe like your. The result was 2nd overall behind Charles Voegele.

I don't recognise the event & the number does not agree with any I have found for Silvio Moser on the F2 web site.
Maybe the car at Pergusa was an 18 - though the Pergus photo with the car on a trailer behind the big american car looks like a 20. There may be a mistake on the photos because the bodywork on the car in the Pergusa crash is not white.

If this car a Lotus 18 then the date of this photo must by end of 1961 or begin of 1962 and I think at Ollon – Villars. The scenery in the background of this image, lucks for my, similar as the way to the start line coming back from Villars. The photo is not good enough to let the number plate from the Vespa or the letters from the train. I think it’s the same car I founded on September 1966 on my arrival at Lugano, the red and white one.

I hope this is not a record for the amount of time taken to reply to a post but it very well might be! I'm just checking some dates and race numbers for Silvio Moser in Lotus Formula Juniors and can confirm that 12 was the number used by him at the 1963 Ollon-Villars hillclimb. His car was just listed as a Lotus, competing in the Formula Junior class, with a capacity of 1097cc. However, I am quite certain from the shape of the opening in the rear bodywork, that this is a 1961 Lotus 20.

The Tram/Train in the picture is almost certainly the Aigle-Ollon-Monthey-Champéry line, later known as the AOMC. Things have changed a lot since then, but the first impression I had was the road from Aigle to Martigny, where it passes Ollon.
Freiburg-Schauinsland is in Germany, by the way, not Switzerland.

The 18 had a taller. narrower rear opening:
It could, I suppose, be a rebodied 18...

In the book "Silvio Moser - Pilota independente", published in 2014, our friend Beat was responsible for the statistics part and there he made it clear that Moser never raced another Lotus FJ than 20-FJ-968. First race Cesenatico 29.04.1962, last appearance Schauinsland 29.09.1963
This Schauinsland hillclimb, by the way, was a Swiss championship event held on Germn territory.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure it is a 20 in the photo posted by Beat, the semi-circle shape of the rear opening is very distinctive and the car in the photo doesn't have top links so it can't be a 22. We know that Moser bought a new 20 as well, so this would fit with that, although he did own a Lotus 18 FJ as well at one point.

Thank you. I guess he crashed it and it was rebuilt, several times... I didn't know that Schauinsland was a Swiss Championship round either...

The Swiss held a National event at Freiburg on 23 - 9 -62 using the upper part of the course (Automobile Revue 27-9-62)
