Pink Floyd reunion @ Magny Cours?

ROGER Waters, a founding member of British rock band Pink Floyd, will stage a concert to mark the centenary of the French Formula One Grand Prix.
Waters, with the band's drummer, Nick Mason – a committed motor racing fan – will perform the group's mythic 1970s album Dark Side of the Moon on Bastille Day, July 14. "Nick's going to be my co-driver," said Waters at the unveiling of the plans for the race's birthday celebrations.
Traditionally held at the start of July, this year's edition has been moved to July 16 to avoid clashing with the World Cup finals in Germany, which winds up on July 9.
July 14, France's premier public holiday, is an appropiate date for the concert given that Waters has written an opera about the French Revolution.
"I'd planned to take this summer off until they approached me about Magny Cours and July 14 which makes a lot of appeal to me," he said.
Whoa....
Anyone wanna go?
More info would be great.

Isn't Dave Gilmore a car nut the same as Nick Mason?
Perhaps only in my dreams, but a slim glimmer of hope that the french gp could be the catalyst that gets all of them back together for one last world tour???
Kinda OT, a few years ago some genius made an Ayrton Senna tribute to the music of Shine on You crazy diamond Pt II. Did anyone else see it?

Personally they can cancel the half reunion and get PULSE out on DVD and SACD, ASAP. Too long have I waited for this recording and I am still mega pissed that I was never able to get one of the limited edition DSOT Laser Discs in the early 90's. I have only ever seen one copy and the owner of that was never going to part with it.

Jp! Given the people that you know (in high places) in that industry, see if you can arrange for Dave Gilmour to join them.....

I've always avoided Magny Cours as it's usually one of the duller races of the year, and in the middle of one of the less exciting parts of France, but an exception could be made for this!.... there's still time for Messrs Gilmour and Wright to come around to the idea (though it's probably unlikely)

Ditto. he's playing the Marquee in Cork in July too. This reunion certainly isn't on.

Have you ever seen David Gilmour and Patrick Head in the same place at the same time?
I have my suspicions!;)
(Yes he is. And he and the band have long followed f1 and been in the paddock. Don't think they ever played tho, they let the Quo do that, didn't they? Plus, of course, Damon and EJ (With Herbert on the tambourine IIRC).)

Jon: I'd be honored if you glanced at my Floyd Dark Side of the Moon tribute band's "light show" - at least long enough to have a laugh at my expense:
http://video.google....d chip mcdonald
The only "cues" were hastily scribbled notes for theme colors per song and my cobbled together ghetto rear projection footage... The slop and Pure Low Brow Photonic Crassness should have you rolling on the floor...
/ F1 Floyd content: To start the show we played "Astronomy Domine"; I made a rhythmic collage out of radio transmissions from F1 for the intro... Damon Hill talking about his brakes going into the Abbey chicane, Ralf complaining about something, a few other things, for that quasi "NASA" effect (*I* knew it wasn't NASA radio transmissions, but it was close enough and more fun...
// We also did "Run Like Hell": in place of the screeching car sounds in the middle I made a 4 channel quadraphonic pass-by of a Ferrari F2002 test recording... That was probably pretty cool if you were standing in the middle of the audience since we had a quadraphonic p.a. setup: seemed like a few grins broke out in the audience when the car "flew" through the room...

It was frickin great!!!!
The guitar player is really good too...
In that video the singer looks like Jarno Trulli on acid

Best part of all...the lighting did NOT detract from what was happening on stage!!!!
The projection content was hysterical...loved it
A success I reckon

Compared to the production and management drama's we are having on the normally placid Steely Dan Tour... this looks like fun fun fun

He didn't really say anything - he mumbled something before the song and then played, and they had a massive screen above the stage full of old, tripped out footage of Syd playing, mixed with footage of deep space, and at the end Roger just turned to the screen and saluted fondly.Originally posted by green-blood
can I ask what Roger had to say on Syd, he has always been fond of Syd and wanted to bring him back in more than once, not to mention helping out with Syds solo efforts

Man, all that coming from you is heavy! Thanks!!
Now THAT'S a show... During "Hey Nineteen"? I like the warm temp key lighting (cued on that lyric, backup voc./horns?) against the saturated blue/lavender soft wash.. The asymetrical stage is cool, too...But - they're not using in-ears...?
(apologies for the reflexively musician geekiness) Thanks again for taking the time!

I wish Waters would try doing something with non- "Tacitly Accepted as Very Facile and Professional, Albeit a Bit Droll musicians. Mason's languid swing would be cool to hear with Waters... but then again, Wright's Hammond would be nice as well... at which point one should really ring up Mr. Gilmour...
BUT still.... Roger Waters collaborating with Mason or Wright IMO would be better than just Waters alone, and any little morsel of hope they might do something audibly creative in the presence of recording gear is a Good Thing to grab onto. IMO.
How many cars does Nick Mason have these days, anyway?
Was that 250 that Mark Knopfler wrecked at Goodwood a few years back one of his or Knopfler's?
/ fun talking about Floyd and cars in a place where people might actually know what you're talking about

Not quite a one-off, he was at the Hyde Park gig on 1st July as well and I've heard he is doing a few of the other European dates too.
These are some pictures I took at Hyde Park:

Thanks! Tried to put together people that would "get" it, you know...?

Fairly simple. For that gig the guitar I used was a Suhr Standard.... The amp was a Randall/Egnater MTS 50 with the Tweed and Vox Top Boost modules.. L6 DL4 for delay, Dunlop Univibe, Chandler Tube Driver (Han Soloed)... May have had my Boogie Formula preamp (ha, F1 content!) on a few things.

I dug it so much I bought it

Thanks for the compliments! That was yet another "empty pockets" gig, so that makes it worthwhile...
ob F1 content: bought the Mesa Formula preamp right after I got into F1 really big. Bought it for a particular sound it does, never thought about the name until years later... The owner of Mesa Boogie Engineering, Randall Smith, is apparently enough of an F1 fan that he bought a Brabham BT49....
