Is anyone working on a Ginther bio? He must be an excellent subject, as he seemingly came from nowhere, drove for so many prominent teams, was relatively anonymous compared with some of his contemporaries, and became somewhat reclusive after his career ended.

In Richie's later years he hung out around Palm Springs and was friends with John Von Nuemann. I believe he went to Mexico to live with one of John's ex wives and passed away in France in 1989. He had managed the Porsche effort for Jo Siffert, at Monterey in 1971 and they finished 5th in a non Turbo charged Porsche 917. I believe he would have been a good mentor and Team manager had he lived. He had also ran his own Porsche effort. Ginther Racing

Jerry, I believe that Richie died in Europe, not Mexico.

Yes, he died of a heart attack in France a few days after a reunion at Donington. His home at the time was Baja, Mexico. Also, his relationship with JvN went back to the mid fifties when Ginther was a mechanic and driver for him.

I think you are right. They are saying he passed away while on Holiday in France at 59. Of heart failure. I stand corrected. I believe he had lived in Mexico before this however. According to Vintage Racecar he passed away September 20,1989 in France at the age of 59
